In a press conference, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey identified 28-year-old Jamal Mitchell as the officer who perished in a mass shooting on the city's southside Thursday evening.

The way I understand it there was a gun fight. A suspect hijacked a moped. A witness to the events ran into the suspect riding the moped to stop him. Officer Mitchell tried to render aid, but the suspect shot him numerous times instead. He was on mandatory OT due to chronic police shortages in Minneapolis since the last riots.
