• Official 20 Year Time-...
"EarthCam Premieres 20 Year 9/11 Anniversary Time-Lapse Film, ‘Never Forgotten’
Documenting two decades of the rescue, recovery and rebuilding at the World Trade Center site"
A letter from the CEO & Founder of EarthCam:
It's been a heroic undertaking to rebuild downtown New York City after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Within days of this national tragedy, I personally installed a camera to webcast the rescue and recovery for the families, and the world, to see the brave determination of first responders. As the recovery effort continued, we installed more cameras to document the rebuilding and construction of the site. This commemorative time-lapse honors the victims of 9/11 and is dedicated to their families and friends, with special gratitude to the first responders and the steadfast construction teams.
A super hardworking team at EarthCam, who I am so proud to work with, spent countless hours keeping the many webcams at the World Trade Center active for 4,617 days (and counting). This unprecedented effort provided our in-house editors with over 1 million images to choose from when creating this two-and-a-half minute video, as well as our other commemorative World Trade Center movies.
We at EarthCam are committed to continuing this photographic documentation to educate future generations and have donated all the images as well as the original camera to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
I hope this time-lapse serves as a way to recognize that for the 10 years of construction, there was constant progress made to rebuild these important 16 acres of America.
Sincerely,
Brian Cury

I just visited the 911 Memorial and Museum last weekend and am from Toronto. The first time I visited the great country of USA and the Twin Towers was in August 2001. At that time I was only 16 and never imagined it will be the last time. I spent nearly 6 hours in the museum and cherished every moment of it, with an unspeakable dread and heaviness in my heart.

The Towers' actual footprints can be seen @0:14. Pay attention to the one on the right (North Tower). You'll see it gradually fade out as they break ground for its respective pool. The pool's North most wall sits adjacent outside the tower's original structure, partially in WTC 6's footprint which is where the new One WTC (freedom tower) now stands. Lock your eyes on the North Tower's foot print after 0:14 and watch the time-lapse.

I haven’t been yet but I absolutely love the design of the memorials for each tower. They could’ve easily had some gaudy statues, but instead they left the gaping holes where the towers once stood. It forces you to grapple with the sheer scale of the loss and the feeling that there’s something missing here that can never be replaced

Watching this video is so nostalgic… I was just a young man in my early 20’s when I started working at ground zero. As a union plumber, we were one of the first trades on the worksite. The first thing that was worked on was getting the train back online the went from New Jersey to the trade center. Our job was to replace the pneumatic air lines that controlled the tracks. I remember my first day walking down the scaffold to get to the bottom of the bathtub. They were still removing the last bit of debris…. Some of the lower levels of the parking garages were still there. It was so weird because some of the floors looked liked they were burnt to a crisp and another floor looked absolutely perfect as if nothing happened…. No char on the stop signs or parking lines. The train tunnels were pumped out from all the flooding and were very damp and had a terrible smell. I worked tirelessly at ground zero from 2002 till 2015. In the early stages there was so much miss management. We would build structures that were changed and taken apart. It was crazy… There’s another city underground at that the trade center that not many people know about… all I can say is those buildings will never come down again. In all my years in construction I’ve never seen engineering like that and I don’t think any structure will ever be built like that ever again. The engineers basically got a blank check to make these structures the strongest in the world.

For those who have been to the memorial, I'm sure I speak for you when I say, this is a truly remarkable place to be. You literally can't hear the taxis honking their horns, people talking...nothing, you're completely separated from NYC and transferred into a different place. A truly peaceful place to be, despite what happened on 9/11/01, what many think to be the most gruesome attack on American soil, I love how I felt relaxed when going there. If you haven't.. I really think you should visit. It's an amazing place to be.

I think that I will be finally financially ready to travel to USA from Greece next year on the September 9th till September 20th! I’m really excited to go and see this building in real life 20 years exactly after the tragedy happened, and honor all these innocent dead people from that day.. 😔God bless me to be there next year 🙏🏻

@@Lydia.94 I bet it was emotional. I lived about 5 miles from the Pentagon Building in Arlington, VA that horrible day but have since moved. I still have not visited NY since but will someday when I think the time is right for my daughter. I'm happy for you experiencing that trip and showing your respect.

Probably because it's funded publically, or however it is funded doesn't make it a top priority speed build.

I visited in 2006 when I was younger. I had no idea realistically of what had happened and it just looked like a building site to me. They called it Ground Zero still at that time and it's wonderful to see what it now looks like. A beautiful memorial to those that lost their lives. I hope to visit it again one day so I can pay proper respects.

Visited the Memorial las month during the Holidays.....it was very impressive as well as quite depressive.....walking along the foundations of both towers was very emotional to me, specifically contemplating all the memories of the innocent people who perished that day, including those on the other airplanes that also went down. The Memorial displays all the events that took place on that infamous day.

I completely understand, a 40 year great stagnation in the developed economies. Leads to a 2,300% pay rise for executives, you've been courteous, so I won't say, lick spittle for the robber Barron. Slum lords, who make so many, pay debit for their poverty, please see Park Avenue. The Ascent of Money, Capitalism a love affair, I know your a decent fellow, check how little you've got from 4 decades of exponential technological development. I know, corporate lawyers make you rightly afraid, 400 people, getting as much as 150 million people, is honestly Scarry. But if you want to get a cent out of cheap solar, you've all got to show some courage, it's not easy sure your frightened, who wouldn't be.
