Eufloria is an ambient game of space exploration and conquest that employs surprising themes of plant growth and bio mechanical evolution.
The game allows the player to explore a beautifully realized universe rendered in a style that is both unique and compelling. Eufloria's aesthetics are reminiscent of children's books like "the little prince" and the gameplay is supported by an original ambient soundtrack by Brian Grainger.
Gameplay revolves around conquering asteroids in space and using their resources to literally grow and nurture new semi-organic plants and creatures to do the player's bidding.
The player is pitched against several teams of AI opponents that all vie for the same resources and can offer fierce opposition.

I love the minimalistic graphics in this game, it really lets your imagination run wild with the vividness of the battles. With the right mindset, this game is as epic as Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation in terms of space battles. It's also the closest thing to an Ender's Game video game we'll ever get, so even more points for that.

Dyson was a freeware game created in under a month for a competition on TIGSource. Eufloria is a massively expanded and polished version of the game, on which its two creators have been working for the past year and a half. It was also a runner-up for the Grand Prize in IGF 2009, so it's very good shit. So, yes, it used to be called Dyson, but it's a very different thing, now, and far better. More importantly, it's worth your money, especially given the huge amount of work that's gone into it.

This game is amazing, I remember playing Dyson a year ago, and the first time I played it I was playing like from 00:00, to 03:00 at night, this game is crazy.

Yes, I made this with Rudolf Kremers and Brian Grainger. Rudolf is, along with Tuna (our porting co-conspirators), making a game set in Eufloria universe called Eufloria Adventures. I will be making a new game set in the universe next year, which I'm pretty excited about. Thanks very much for your kind words!

I loved the IGF build - I just hope the release version hasn't overcomplicated its aesthetics, or lost any of its simple charm. Steam is telling me 1 day and 2 hours to go, so I'll soon find out :)

Alex May, did you make this game? It is fascinating. Never have seen anything like it. I found it through the recent humble bundle. Glad it was there, or I might have missed this :-) I haven't even remotely played it enough yet, but I am already convinced that I would buy any sequel which might come. Cheers!

Just bought it today, Steam sale. I had tried it before, it's an impressive game. I'm getting a wee bit stuck around level 10, but that's OK, I'll get there eventually. Btw, it's loads of fun dropping 2500+ seedlings on an enemy asteroid and check out the resulting chaos... :P

Dyson was never free, it was going to be released on steam in June/July. Eufloria is just the upgraded version of it, and for me its only £14.99

Thanks! I'm not against downloading games, to be honest, or buying bundles at 1 cent, because I know that way many more people get to play the game and maybe spread the word, which is great. I also know that enough people are honest about what they like and buy the games they love and can afford. My issue with the original comment I guess is that I just don't like people being so thoughtless about it. Sure, he didn't like the game, that's fine but advising other people not to buy it is unfair.

Unless they made some major changes to the original version, "Dyson", then it's probably not going to be that great. Dyson was fun for about the first couple levels, then it gets boring and monotonous.
