Thrill-seekers will experience a new level of excitement when they visit Kings Island in 2020. Joining the world-class line-up of roller coasters at the park is Orion, one of only seven giga coasters in the world, a class of roller coasters having a height or drop of 300-399 feet.
Themed to the park's new Area 72, the ride features the latest prototype vehicle developed by the Project X initiative. Scientists are in a race against time to develop technology capable of weaving transport vehicles through a coming meteor storm and traveling to a new planet within the Orion constellation. For the program to be successful, it needs volunteers to help with testing.
Riders on Orion will plummet down an exhilarating 300-foot first drop, sending them on a high-speed journey over seven more hills and 5,321 feet of track at speeds up to 91 mph on Kings Island's tallest, fastest and longest steel roller coaster.
Orion was exclusively designed for Kings Island by Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard, which also designed the park's popular Banshee and Diamondback roller coasters. #Subscribe #KingsIsland #RollerCoasters

@@chefchasee.1353 There’s basically only one big bill then about 5-6 turns then it’s over. The ride is pretty short actually, the ride also kind of hurts your dead so be prepared- The big hill is way more intense than diamondback. Orion overall is pretty good ;)

When I rode it it was lightly raining. I couldn't open my eyes because it felt like a million tiny needles were stabbing me.

@@GalacticStudios69 wellllllllll I mean. There have been 6 deaths in the park and one person who had their legs chopped off. Then there was son of beast which nearly had its supports break. Only one of those accidents was actually KI fault. But that’s when they were under different control. Like I said cedar fair has extra safety measures now. You have to have the restraints go further down than you would at other parks. They haven’t had a death since 1999 which is a pretty good sign

@@GalacticStudios69 the wood wasn’t up to quality standard it needed for a specific turn so it wore faster than it should have. On one ride it had completely cracked. The ride operator noticed when the people returned to the station that they were all in pain so he e stopped the ride for what would have been a dangerous complete break of the tracks.

Not for me; those restraints hug my legs so tight they almost cut off the circulation to my feet. I do agree tho; I LOVE that moment of airtime right before the helix 😁😁😁

Timber hawk roller coaster reaches 65mph and has a steep ass drop steeper than this imo just not as fucking high😭💀

@@Unkown6678 Timber Hawk is 75 feet high with a top speed of 50 mph. Orion is 287 feet high but goes below ground a little bit for a 300 foot drop with a top speed 91 mph and an angle of 85 degrees. Why even try to compare the two? Your opinion is wrong...

This is an absolute behemoth of a ride at night. The lights are absolute stunning as well. Kings Island seriously knows what theyre doing. I can’t wait for the next coaster

Next time you're there get a night ride on diamondback. There's no lights at all. You can't see anything, you just feel it. If you can get one of the last rides with fireworks going off it's unreal. Best night ride I ever had.

This coaster is 100% underrated, it's the only giga I've rode that consecutively made me grey out all three rides. Also, lost my phone on the ride, KI called me the next morning to say they found it and somehow it didn't have a scratch! Legit miracle with how wild this ride is!

Just rode this today for the first time with my 11 yo daughter! We loved it!! We actually rode it twice because we had early access to the park and it wasn’t crowded at all (probably due in part to the high 90 degree temps) and we walked on to all the big coasters. An amazing day!

This is the best ride in my opinion. The drop is so fun it feels like your floating.(not a bad way) You also just fly around with twists and curves!

Yeah, when you experience a lot of positive g forces, the blood rushes to your feet with little remaining in your head. The lack of blood in your eyes causes you to lose vision temporarily.

Just rode this last Saturday (before the rain hit) and this is now my favorite ride in the park. I kept thinking the drop would be the worst part of it but it ended up being my favorite part of it. I honestly cannot find anything negative about it other than Orion leaving me wanting to ride it over and over again. Cannot wait to get back to KI later this summer to spend the day at Soak City and finish the day on Orion!

yeah my favorite ride at kings island is the beast but the one thing about it i dont love is the extremely lengthy climb up both drop hills

Probably the smoothest and most enjoyable coaster out there. Been going to this park for a while and this ride was the first one I ever bought merch for. Absolutely in love with this ride!

Trust me, your first time after going on this roller coaster you feel like the king of the world. It truely feels like you are flying. It’s incredible and nobody should be nervous to ride it because it is pure enjoyment, so smooth. It feels like you are cutting through the air!

Thank god! A lot of people have trashed this thing. I absolutely love it! Its amazing, (well in my opinion it is) to me its got a good mix of Positive, negative, and lateral Gs blended together very well with a huge size and great pacing! Plus the lighting kicks ass on it and its smooth as glass! Personally, its my number one!!! I love Orion!!

My Daughter and I were up there last May, from Florida, we had a blast, unfortunately we didn’t ride Orion or Diamondback. If she passes third grade, we’re coming back up there and riding both of them. We did ride Banshee, Mystic Timbers, the Bat, and Racer. I rode the Beast. I wish we lived closer to your park, we’d be there every weekend.

I rode this yesterday for the first time. It is a couple steps up from Diamondback. I like the amount of twist and turns, it does maintain speed throughout, and doesn't really let up much. Every rollercoaster in this park is good and has something that the other doesn't.

Me and my friends went to kings island today and i can tell you this ride is amazing! The wait was maybe 20 minutes but some of the adults went in 5 minutes! We dont have fast passes either. This ride is so smooth and barely shakes compared to The Racer. Plus when you go up its pretty slow so you can enjoy the view! So so so fun!

this is my second giga coaster. my first one was Millennium Force. its hard to choose which I like better though. Millennium Force seems to have a more intense first drop but Orion has better air time hills....i guess both are awesome in their own way. hopefully Ill get to ride more gigas in my future!

@@xathirastormshredder7171 i live in Illinois but I been to both Cedar Point and Kings Island twice. my home park is Six Flags Great America. while we have no giga we at least have a really fun RMC (even though super short). we have a hyper as well but I think I rode it so many times it got "old" still fun but nothing extreme.

I just came back from kings island. This was the highlight of my trip!( I went to great wolf lodge and kings island with the fam) this was the very last ride I rode. It’s they’re 50th anniversary, so they have a fireworks display for about 15mins every night this year before the park closes. So, they shut the Orion down for 15 mins and you have to wait about 45mins to an hour( I was already in line 45mins and as soon it was our turn to ride, they shut it down) for them to clean everything up and make sure the tracks are clear. So in all I waited about 2 hour just to ride! It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth the wait. Definitely try and ride it at night, you will not regret it. I promise it goes faster than 91 mph! I asked the young lady to let us sit in the back row and she granted my wish! ( The back is the absolute best place to ride/ the front second) Great ending of a great day, at kings island! This was my very first time to the park. This may be my new favorite. I gotta go back to cedar point and verify this lol

Hey there! Exact same thing happened to me - id been hesitant my entire time there then i made a snap decision + got in line before fireworks and had to wait haha But it was soooo worth it and YES at night it was so cool /w the lights! Great ending to the night!

I went to Kings Local School District for 5 years of my childhood, and I would go to Kings Island every week in the summer. It was my favorite activity to do with friends when I went to Kings Junior High! My family moved away in 2013 but they are moving back this year, which means when I visit them this summer I will get to go to KI again for the first time in 9 years. It has changed so much since I lived there and I am so beyond excited to go back and ride the classics I remember and also the new rides like Orion. Orion is definitely the first on my list 😍

Our store took a team building trip to kings island last month. I grew up in Toledo, close to Cedar Point, so I hadn’t been to KI since I was a very little kid. I have to say, it was such a fun day. The rides were all so much fun and definitely exceeded my expectations having ridden so many cedar point coasters! Orion and the Diamondback were soooo much fun. I could’ve ridden them both o er and over again.

I just rode this for the first time yesterday and it did not disappoint! The first big drop had crazy airtime and the rest was just as good! Also i think this ride cured my fear of really tall rollercoasters lol. Next time I come im definitely riding it again!

Man this was great, as I’m writing this I’m lined up to go again. For me, only the top part of the inicial drop was scary but the remainder of it feels great. If you’re scared to get on just do it. Don’t back out because you won’t regret it.

I'm terrified of like all roller coasters, but I went here yesterday. We rode just about every single ride, and I had a blast. This one was for sure my most favorite next to the diamondback. The drop was so intense, but smooth and it was a lot of fun. After going here I regret not riding these types of rides when I was younger

I was the exact same way! I’ve always been too scared to ride roller coasters, but I went just the other day and ended up riding almost every coaster there. Now I want to go back!!!

I've only been to Cedar Point and Michigan's Adventure. I like both. This ride looks really fun.

Was scared of rollercoasters all my life until literally this day, august 14, 2022. I rode the tiny blue rollercoaster for kids and then I built up to the diamond back, Orion, then banshee. Those 3 rollercoasters literally cured my fear of rollercoasters. Highly recommend people to do at least one big rollercoaster before deciding they don’t like them or not

Going on a 4 park tour and kings is one, been on millennium and cannot wait to try a B&M giga! Other parks are Adventureland, indiana beach and lost island

i rode this 5 times yesterday and i loved it, it was my first giga, and cured my fear of tall roller coasters. Best ride in the park with Diamondback at a close second

I rode it for the first time today. My only regret is not waiting in line longer so I could sit in the front. Amazing coaster!

I have been afraid of dive coasters and gigas all my life but when I rode diamondback for the first time a couple weeks ago, I knew this would follow suit very soon, and it did. I rode this two days ago and it’s easily the best ride at the park. Needless to say I’m not afraid of coasters anymofe
