Saw the concert Thursday 10/18012 at Chumash Casino. Extremely polished and tight. I'm 62 now and saw "Tull" many many years ago during the "Benefit" Tour and many years later at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Dot.Com). Ian Anderson is a Master flautist and Musical genius with a fantastic sense of humor. His current group are all accomplished musicians and I will see them every chance I get.

My first concert at 13 years old. Loved Tull since. Went on to 'attempt' flute in school. Great memories.

Wow, I had the pleasure of catching this show in Atlantic City on 10/6/12 and it was awesome. I've been going to Tull shows since the mid 70's and this might be the best collection of musicians yet. Loved hanging with other Tullheads -- great vibe in the building. TAAB is clearly their best album in many years. Ian is a young 60something and I wish him well and I sure hope he does Aqualung pt.2 after this current. tour. LONG LIVE TULL!!!!!!!

Those who hate will hate. Those stuck in the past will remain in the past. Those who think all is new is less, will never be persuaded otherwise. I find it a very ambitious and intriguing project. And I shall approach it as I do all such things, with an open mind, and the willingness to listen many times to clear the cache of my default biases. Bravo to the battle-worn and weary, winsome actor.

Solitaire indeed! One player on his own. Did anybody really wonder what happened to Gerald Bostock? Never mind where the hell was Biggles where the hell is Martin - who always pulled you through? I remember a radio interview with the two together when Ian said he couldn't carry on without Martin and Martin modestly sounded surprised. Martin was the guts of of the Tull sound. The fading light illuminates the mercenaries creed!

I agree with a lot of you that this album is just absolutely amazing whether the main Jethro Tull members are there or not. In fact, you would hardly think that the backing musicians are not Tull ! I am from the U.K. and have been Tull follower since the start, live in Japan and look forward to seeing 4 shows in South California in October !

As a long-time Tull enthusiast, I have found Ian's solo bands much better than the current Tull lineup. His solo shows have blown away his Tull shows for years. To the point that I stopped seeing Tull and only attended the fabulous Ian shows for the past 10 years. This has a chance to be great. He has a great band.
@Pssybart12 жыл бұрын
Just when you thought Tull would never release another album... This is good fricking news! I only wish Ian would do another album with Martin soon. I know they have been writing many songs for the last few years. Martin is now forming a band that includes Doane Perry and Jonathan Noyce, they will play Jethro Tull music from the 1970's. I really hope both of these tours will come to Holland.

Ian IS Jethro Tull. I say this because the great CONCEPTS behind TAAB, Passion Play, Warchild, Aqualung, etc. were Ian's alone, and no one else's. Not Martin's, not Jeffrey's, not Barrimore's, not anyone. The musicians may change, but the MIND and GENIUS of Ian is the one constant. That is what links the original TAAB to TAAB2. And that's all I care about.

Martin doesn't want a rest. He's touring in support of his own double-album. His description of the band Fairport Convention might be telling: "They have a tremendous work ethic; sharing everything as a true band and all have the opportunity to write and perform their own ideas and share the stage." Also, no Doane on TaaB2.

absolutely fantastic album, I love every second of it and I would be honest in saying this I didn't think Mr Anderson still had it in him to make such an brilliant album, sorry Ian I should have known better, and what can I say about your concert at the opera house in Manchester apart from anybody who is reading this you must go and see them, thick as a brick and then we were treated to TAAB2 fantastic night thank you so much Ian,can i just to say god there is some musical snobs on hear,piss off

I just saw Ian do this in Glasgow, an actor in his mid twenties played the part of Bostock in both halves over the two albums being played in concert form. It was part new album, part jukebox musical and gave some sense of Anderson rediscovering some spiritual yet dramatic and comic tone the original album had. Tough going for non Tull fans though and it may be fair comment to say that it would be more satisfying to audiences and more beneficial to Anderson financially to do a musical based on

Yeah, he's just that awesome that he literally tempted to create a sequel to what probably was the most crazy project they ever accomplished.. and it's set for this year, in 2012.. which is a ridiculous goal, because he is in his sixties now. If he can pull it off, then Nature had him immortalized as a god after the completion of TAAB1, I guess.

since he had that throat disease he lost that distinct richness that made his vocals so absolutaly enthralling. even addictive when backed up by his music

I think the reason why many longtime Tull fans (such as myself) dislike the way this is delivered is precisely that, in releasing TTAB II as an 'Ian Anderson' project, Ian is implying that all it took to record the first one was himself. At the very least you would expect Barre to be involved. I recently read an interview with the man. He is understandably hurt and befuddled at being left out and is now getting ready to tour with Tull songs with his own band.
@EricDB00712 жыл бұрын
@Buck380s yeah i was just commenting on something similar the newer digital hammonds are awesome. Very close to the real thing. I have an xk1, key action isnt like walking on air like a real hammond but overall they're solid and sound great.

@daddysevenpointfiver Martin himself stated that he does not foresee any Tull concerts for the next two years, Doane will join him in some concerts. This does not mean they're definitely out of Tull. The JT website still refers to the TAAB tour as an Ian Anderson tour, not Jethro Tull.
@kfsfkakf12 жыл бұрын
Yes but Martin Barre as been there since Stand Up their second album and it would have been a real treat to have the original line-up record TAAB 2. Imagine that
@Pssybart12 жыл бұрын
@justgivemethetruth You can check out the tour dates on his website. The band will be playing Tull music from the 70's. It consists of some (former) Tull members and it will feature no keyboard player: Martin Barre..guitar;Pat O'may..guitar/vocals;John Mitchell..vocals/guitar;John Noyce...bass;Frank Mead..flute/sax./harmonica/vocals;Fred Moreau or Doane Perry..drums. Martin will also join a tour called Legends of Rock with people from bands like Yes and Asia.

Yes. TAAB2 is loyal to it's progressive roots. BIG BOLD BOMBASTIC... all the things that made the original TAAB so great.

(continued again) Then I was privy to an Ian Anderson interview in which he essentially explained why Jethro Tull was no longer the band it used to be: because it used to be Ian Anderson's ideas alone. Ian wrote, Ian arranged, Ian would teach the bass (and sometimes drum, if I recall correctly) to other band members, and in the case of "Locomotive Breath" Ian played the whole thing (minus intro) himself! Jethro Tull, per Ian's admission, was now a real "band", with all members contributing ide

@burgmail Interesting points. At least partially, I agree. He has also chosen top notch players that will give the rhythm section parts the appropriate strength and elasticity (so it won't be like Ian playing all the insrtuments by himself...)

Oh I'm sure many of us will be eating our words by April 3rd. It's just a knee-jerk reation as reality sets in. The last time attended an Ian solo concert, it was actually one of the best Tull shows I'd never seen. And he didn't play a bit of TAAB, but he did a bunch of more obscure Tull songs. I'll probably buy TAAB2 (and not steal it via the net). And I'll see you all at the show!
@Ferretbomber12 жыл бұрын
@corbovinum definitely a reasonable view, they were after all called 'The John Evan Smash' before they were Tull, and John Evan was a colorful character. They had some terrific line-ups, I'd be nostalgic to have Barriemore Barlow on the skins! I'm a middle age fan, and grew up a huge metal head and still listen to a lot of Iron Maiden and even newer death and black metal from Europe, but Tull will always be one of my sentimental faves. Pure genius. ;>
@Ferretbomber12 жыл бұрын
@Cerebralcinema That is true, but functionally it isn't much different than a Tull line-up change, I just see it as apples and oranges. But you are correct that it is not officially a Tull album.
@Ivanprog206812 жыл бұрын
Lets be honest, Jethro Tull is Ian Anderson. As a fact he's the only member of the band that has been present in every Jethro Tull incarnation. The main issue in Prog albums is the composition, and Ian Anderson always wrote the music and lyrics of the band,m the performance is great, he's complemented by excellent musicians, this is Jethro Tull under a different moniker

@deepurple381 The music at the end of this video sounds like a B3 to me. I know many would consider this heresy, but the B3 sound can be easily replicated on modern electronic keyboards. In fact Hammond makes a digital version of the B3 (B3 MK2) that is played by many musicians (including the great Jon Lord)

@Ferretbomber The band playing TAAB at Madison Square Garden was the first Tull footage that I ever saw (after listening to their records for about 5-6 years) and the character that struck me the most was the guy on the keyboards with the weird grin. That's one reason for me to think about John Evan whenever I think about TAAB. The other reason is... just look at that young guitar player, doesn't he remind you of anyone??

@Cerebralcinema I was asking for a B3, and that's because that's the one John Evan used in the original Thick as a Brick and sounded truly awesome. I know you've listened to TAAB, you just didn't get my point of the B3.
@amonwalters12 жыл бұрын
Giddings remained the website admin for a brief while, and intimated (on the ste, no less) that his and Noyce's dismissal was due to Tull shows not pulling in sufficient profits anymore and their tenures were too costly. (TaaB2 tickets seem to be only around $50, which is low IMO) Doane has had medical issues, which doesn't postpone Gerald Bostock's 50th birthday. Then Martin, I think he's still got some regrets on missing his Grammy moment and really wants to achieve something on his own.
