The turning point of the Philippines at Miss Universe. After missing out the Top 5 during this year, the controversy on the national director's control over their delegates' wardrobe (with this gown being made by a foreign designer if I recall) pushed them to switch to wearing creations by their homegrown designers, helping them win 2 crowns and extend their still-ongoing semifinal streak after this.

Philippines this time was the reason why Pia Wutzbach had the chance to pick her own gown created by a filipino designer. She was perfect with the Pink gown she wore at the rehearsal but the organization did not allow her to wear it because of the contract. The most saddest moment for me being a a huge fan of MU.

Miss Spain looks like a Hollywood star. The pose, the gown, the smile just elegant personified. 10/10. How did she fail to make it to the top 5?

1. Colombia - this looks like an awards dress, super classy and she looked like a star 2. Jamaica - I would have preferred slicked back hair, but otherwise, perfection 3. Ukraine - bond femme fatale stunning 4. Spain - gorgeous, except I didn’t like how the bust line fit (it looked like she was on the verge of a wardrobe malfunction) 5. USA - the least competitive of the top 5, but better than the 5 below; a gorgeous woman 6. Netherlands - that face is stunning, but the gown was not top 5 material 7. Argentina 8. Australia 9. Philippines (honestly I think regardless of the gown, she wasn’t going to make the top 5 - too competitive a year) 10. Venezuela (the gown was just too short!!)

This is the last time that the delegate of the Philippines was controlled by their former National Director, Stella Marquez-Araneta (Colombian married to a Filipino), with the wardrobe choice, including the gown. And this is also the last time where the representative of the Philippines has only one option but to wear a gown from a Colombian designer named; "Alfredo Barraza," who created gowns for the representative of the Philippines during the late 1990's up to 2014, and was supposedly also to make one in 2015, but Filipino fans online and the Philippine news media protested for a change. Well, that change started during the 63rd edition of Miss Universe. Both Miss Philippines, Mary Jean Lastimosa and the representative of Colombia, Paulina Vega, have had their countries placed for the first time together in the Final Top 15 roster of the event. Both competed in swimwear during the Swimsuit Competition, and also both of them advanced to the Top 10. As both were able to grace the stage during the Evening Gown Competition. Miss Colombia, wowed the crowd with a sparkling gown with linear details on it, making her standout that evening and win her way to the Top 5, and was hailed as the winner. Miss Colombia's gown was actually designed by the Colombian designer, Alfredo Barraza. And the said designer also created Miss Philippines gown. A white mermaid fishtail shaped gown with an interesting flower applique on the top, and a slight sheer in-between the waist and the skirt. Although, the gown made for Miss Philippines was interesting, but it did not help her make it to the Top 5, leaving her going home. With that, fans cried out that the gown itself was not the best fit for their favorite. And also, some fans created an internet meme about it looking like a "badminton shuttlecock." And not only that, fans also made fun with Barraza's costume designed for Miss Philippines during the National Costume event that was held a few days before the finals. The National Costume made by her was named by fans as, "The Wedding Cake" or the "Goldilocks Cake," which is a famous pastry cake shop in the Philippines.

Ukrania (Very risky gown as ball room themed gown more suited for Miss World but she pulled it off amazingly) 2:46 to 3:10 6. Colombia (Nothing special or out of ordinary) 2:21 to 2:45 7. Australia (the cutest gown and cutest face) 6:23 to 6:46 8. USA (gown colour is bit dull and her walk is also too mundane) 6:47 to 7:10 9. Phillipines (wrong outfit and make up) 3:36 to 4:02 10.
