I've also lost my mother to cancer. Then my 2 brothers age 49 and 51. May they R.I.P. I still miss them everyday. Grievances are difficult but believe me, time is a great healer. But living is part of losing. God bless you. x.

Even this is my favorite PSB track, but sadly has only 17million views in 13 years. I still get goosebumps when I hear the first synthesizer part, which is similar to the main verse of the song. I am 48 years old

What an amazing band and amazing song. I recall when it first hit our ears in the 80s and it was an instant hit. They played it everywhere and we played it all the time. Danced to it and just enjoyed this song and life. I just turned 57 and enjoy this music just as much, if not more. What a great and timeless sound.

I feel so blessed that despite being born in 99 I know these songs. This is real music. My dad use to play his music tapes in the car when I was young and all I remember is laying in the back seat soaking in all the goodness. Sometimes I forget about this music but when I do come back to it I feel so like I've been saved and everything is truly perfect in those few minutes.

ABSOLUTELY LEGENDARY TRACK... totally worth shouting about... one of the most brilliant dance tracks of the 80's... and i know most of them... you can play this anytime, anywhere, and the house will be pumping... PSBs are quietly legendary... no need to scream when you are this good.

anonimus drum there aint too many songs i get goosebumps over just thinking about the track... as an 1980 to 90's nightclub DJ i got burnt out on certain sounds like the horrible onslaught of Stock, Aitken, & Waterman regurgitated pop songs... but even just thinking of the magical atmosphere this track gives is enough to give me goosebumps... just the intro, then lyrics, the build up to the magical chorus... it's what i would term a 10/10... suits everything from a wedding to any dance party... and still respected as a legitimately good song in virtually every other genre and not just a generic copy eg: the Rick Astley era (eeek). if i played 10 best or immortal dance tracks in a set of the 1980s club scene, then this PSBs track would be in that set... here's the playlist order... starting off with a classy track that was again a hit in the 90's... 1. In The Evening by Sheryl Lee Ralph... 2. Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order... 3. Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood... 4. Tainted Love by Soft Cell... 5. Beat It by Michael Jackson... 6. Love Shack by B52s... 7. 1999 by Prince... 8. Suburbia by Pet Shop Boys... 9. Never Ending Story by Limahl (and of course Giorgio Moroders production)... ... but for me, the best song of the 1980s was.... i'd end the set with a slow one... 10. Dont Dream It's Over by Crowded House. now if it was a top 50 ??? oh boy... Billy Idol missed out on the top 10... but a few of his tracks were great too... maybe you were too young to remember him?

I used to rewind this cassette tape and play this song over and over in my headphones with my walkman when I was just a wee one. This is at the beginning of the birth of real electronic music which I still love so very much today. This song like so many other 80's songs was real poetry and got you thinking. Wondering exactly what message they were trying to convey.

The Pet Shop Boys are an example of music, in any genre, at it's absolute finest. Their debut where this song is from is simply outstanding for a band's first record, and this song just smokes. I love the juxtaposition between the breezy and bright main keyboard melody/chorus, and the rest of the song which is much more dramatic and intense sounding. Chris and Neil are practically in a league of their own, when it comes to synth-pop, love them so much.

Such a great bit of social commentary. Suburbia is hell; many of the more bizarre crimes happen there; and the false feeling of security that people have, can be easily exploited by predators. In the 80's people were flying high, and despite the plethora of propaganda, and fear mongering, lots of people were getting molested because nobody was watching. (Conversely, there was only one case of Halloween candy intended to harm, and it was a father who tampered with the candy! Yet, it was common practice to get your candy X-rayed; heresay and gossip are dangerous and extremely uncouth.) Tab, then diet coke, coupled with many secrets and lies, were the paucity of substance that made the 80's. Reganomics, that is the origin of the miserable financial climate we experience now. I digress, great song by the phenomenal "Pet Shop Boys", makes me feel old, however. They were ahead of their time in many ways.

I was born in 89 and I gotta say that 80ies songs make me nostalgic about a time I didn't even actually witness. It's kinda magical. I'd die to live on year in the 80ies and listen to those songs on repeat on the radio 💕

Before PSB, Neil was a music critic and got blasted for his work by musicians, being told "Do it better, if you can!" He definitely could do it better, much better! Still active, and just about to release album # 13

Actually, when Neil was writing for Smash Hits, the magazines' contents were quite good. I enjoyed his reviews on upcoming singles and albums. They were most of the time a bit cynical and funny.
