About Sanford And Son: The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

I always thought it was pretty adorable that the final image you saw of Fred and Lamont together was them saying” I love you” to each other - especially considering how contentious their relationship was at the beginning of the series.

True story, Demond (the actor who played Lamont) was given no notice, warning, hint or anything that the show was going to end. He was essentially cut off by the network and Redd Foxx at a sudden notice. Imagine going from being a star on a hit show to just a regular dude again. This is where his grievances against Redd and Norman Lear began. Even after Norman just passed, I just watched an interview he did about the show. He is still dismissive of both of them. He will hold that grudge to the grave not just against them, but all of Hollywood.

If Redd did not quit and Demond(Lamont) for salary negotiations, it would have lasted longer than 5 years. Was one of the funniest sitcom I liked next to All in the family and The Jeffersons.

Both Redd Foxx and Demond flopped on their solo projects after Sanford and Son went off the air in 1977.
