Duarte Lobo, the chapel master at Lisbon Cathedral, embodies one of the summits of Portuguese sacred polyphony in the transition from the 16th to the 17th century. In the splendor of this predominant compositional style at that time, the southern European countries of Portugal and Spain represent one of the most fertile and creative musical spaces, but still insufficiently known.
