This firebox was a bit of a chore to build. That's just how I roll though. Take something simple and put it on exert difficulty. The main issue that we had is rolling the 5.5" x 5/16 flat bar into a 24" diameter circle in an effort to make the firebox a little bigger. Hindsight being 20/20, I think we could both agree that it was a task that we shouldn't have tried to take on. Nevertheless, we pushed on and got the job down. Additionally we gave this firebox the Workhorse Pits treatment and cut out the throat opening down low as they do on their smokers. Lastly, we went with air inlet design that I've seen SG Metalworks use often but we put a slight twist on it by having the flapper valve rotate vertically rather than horizontally. I think there is a huge benefit of this design and I look forward to sharing that with you all once I get a handful of cooks in this thing.

Thanks for the shout-out ; ) I'm glad to see it's coming along! Looks like a beast. Can't begin to fathom the effort involved in rolling that piece of flat bar...

Sure thing. Yeah it was about 3 hours of grunting like fools and another hour of a sledgehammer massage. Throw in a splash of truck tie-down ratchet strap and a few clamps being pushed passed their limits and you've got yourself a circle, my friend.

Looking good, I like how you made the stand out of tubing instead of angle and the legs at an angle instead of straight up and down like everyone else. Keep up the great work 👍

Good looking offset you got going there! Your right about the firebox size, the bigger the firebox the easier it is to manage the fire.

Thanks Mike! What, if any, effect do you think a big box has on the ability to get more smoke flavor?

@@BSBBQue it definitely has more effect on smoke flavor. You can build a bigger hotter coal bed to burn greener wood up front and get better smoke flavor on your meat when you need it. Check out my brisket video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iK2Gd6x2nd6leH0.html I go in depth about this.

Love the door vent, would it self close after it loosens over time? Would including a spring on the shaft to keep tension help?

That's a good question. One that I don't have the answer to just yet. I suppose only time will tell. As of right now there is plenty of tension on it so I don't forsee it being an issue..
