This is so simple, and that is why it's so frustrating when you have a new big smoker to play with. Hopefully, you won't make the same mistake after watching this video.

Thankfully here in Texas this isn't an issue. I can go down major local roads any weekend and buy plenty of seasoned wood sold on the roadside, or get full cords delivered. I usually keep a few cooks worth on hand at any time.

Excellent words of advice. I have a smoker coming at the end of July and I am trying to figure out how much wood I am going to need.

My smaller pieces have dried out nicely, wood came in May 4th, so 6 weeks out isn’t hateful. Enjoy the smoker!

Wood in the Charlotte area is in the high three hundreds. We have a lot of hickory trees. My neighbor cut down several and the workers delivered lots limbs. But I have to cut them size
@ComparisonCooking

A lot of these are 20 inches so I’m cutting down also. I like the process but I never have the time.

You should have bought a few boxes of wood from Meadow creek when you picked up the smoker, if you went to their store in Lancaster. That's where I get my wood from.

So, with smokers, are you only suppose to put the charcoal/wood on the side grill chamber? Can you use it as a regular grill by putting charcoal in the main chamber. ?

You need to make a burn barrel and turn some of that wood to charcoal.

Smoker noob here, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy lump charcoal and wood chips or chucks?
@ComparisonCooking
@ComparisonCooking 3 ай бұрын
Bags of charcoal and wood chunks add up. One run could eat a bag of both, that would be $30 bucks a run if not more. A cord of wood is $150-300 and could last you lots and lots of cooks.

One benefit of Arizona and triple digit heat and almost non existent humidity half the year. It doesn't take that long for the wood to dry. That's just about the only benefit I can think of haha.

Are you just using an axe to chop down the wood ? I have a similar issue where I need to break down my pieces , but a lot of my wood needs to be cut down perpendicularly and not laterally.
