Hey everyone, Chris and Sam are back with another reaction video!
After checking out the Band-Maid Warning music video, we decided to check out a live performance.

Akane is not only an excellent drummer but she's also the happiest. Band-Maid released a new MV yesterday, a live performance of an old song, Puzzle, from their January gig in Tokyo.

Kanami doesn't mindlessly ego shred. She always serves the song, her Bandmates and the audience. That's why she one of the greatest guitarist and composers in the business. Thx, Guys!

When you see them, so fresh and enthusiastic, you don't realize they're actually road warriors with hundreds of concerts under their belt (around 500 I would say). They're so great and entertaining on stage because they worked their ass off, they know what it is to tour in a minivan, being you own roadies, playing in front of 50 people and sharing everything with your "sisters". In 2022, they finally had a real fine and huge tour bus for their US tour, a real life-changing thing. The fact they are still the five original members after 10 years is a small miracle but they are more then band members, they're friends and accomplices, closest thing to family. Btw your reactions keep on getting better and more professionnal, volume levels are fine now, congrats.

Yes they have certainly paid their dues, done it the hard way. As you say constant touring, playing small venues (where I suspect the facilities were not great). But it has honed them into the ultimate live band and created a bond between them. They deserve all the success in the world.

This isn't just a band I enjoy listening to, it's a band I *need* to listen to. They are an essential element required for my continued existence. And they're pretty cute, too.

That bass was a gift from the owner of Black Cloud Guitars. He had given it to her right before the performance. It’s also a custom Private Reserve, like her Black Smoker that you usually see in their videos.

The Maids performing their second most performed song, Freedom, (just behind Real Existence) is pure perfection, isn't it? I mean, what can you fault? And those faces... their attitude... their music... their playing... their story... and their joy! Band-Maid is a world treasure! When the band surrounds the drummer Akane they are actually trying to make her mess up =) It never works but Akane does throw other members off track sometimes ! Check out "Real Existence" Official Live or "Play"Live =) Band-Maid always leaves you smiling=)

Kanamis Solos always serve the Song , never a show off. Maybe you Guys would like to check out an Instrumental by them. They do these during Shows to give Saiki ( Singer ) a break. These are all amazing, Onset Live , From now On ( newest ) or Without holding back. Listened to these so many Times and still blows my Mind.

Great genuine enthusiasm ! Thanks guys...This was my first exposure to Band Maid two years ago. I expected kitsch and corny...I got jaw-dropping greatness ! I've been hooked ever since. They have NO bad songs...beware !

These brilliant musicians have the ability to mix genres into a harmonious form of awesome rock that seems so familiar yet you can't quite put your finger on why. Akane is officially the most cheerful drummer in the world. She reminds me of Keith Moon in that way. The rhythm section of this group and the rest of the members have evolved to a point where at times it is the vocals which carry the rhythm of the song in a certain passages.

Agreed---..BUT---there IS a precedent !! ---------------"-Tippi" (or Chippi" ) ,who plays drums in the group "The Ovils', was the outstanding percussionist in the famous TACHIBANA HighSchool Band , of Kyoto. ----for years, she has won everyone's hearts as much for her always dazzling smile as for her incredible drumming . Tippi took part in the RoseBowl Parade ( fortunately, before the stupid lockdowns! ) and won over everyone there,too. But beware ! :---------getting caught up in the current Tachibana girls' marching band ventures is easily as addictive as falling into the BandMaid rabbit hole ! (see them,on utube, win the Gold in 2015 at the nationals !!)

Right out of the guitar lead, the bass player goes into basic beat pattern, followed by an insane run that mirrors the drum's quarter notes (at your 7:00 mark), finishing with super-melodic dual tones through the laid-back part of the vocals. It's the whole three-course meal. Clearly the best and most sensitive musician in the room, and there are some outstanding musicians in that room.

The transition from the drum solo to the guitar solo is as smooth as a silk. If there are better transitions I haven't heard them.

You GUYS totally nailed it... For Kanami ESPECIALLY (lead guitar, main songwriter) it is all about the song! Genre? I dont care... Solo? Yeah, but only if it fits the song... Breakdowns? Sure, but at the perfect moment... And so, that is the reason i love this band so much, it is new and fresh, but also old and gold! They are doing music since 10 years now and there was never a bad song, even in the years they did not wrote their own songs. It is impressive!

glad to see you catching up! I've been listening to BM since 2015. Check YOLO, the non-fiction days, endless story and the Band Maiko CD (Their April fool's joke) I bet those who cry for English lyrics sing along in the Japanese.

MISA's bass for this song was a custom built one from her regular custom luthier. They had made it especially for her. She later switched it out for her custom JB-Black Smoker. You will also notice that MISA is NOT playing a standard bass line throughout the entire song. She is playing what my daughter who is a music teacher says is a "Lead" Bass line. While Miku the rhythm guitarist is playing more of what could be considered as a bass rhythm, and Kanami the lead guitarist is playing, except for her solo, a rhythm guitar part.

I had the pleasure of seeing these ladies twice last Oct, and to say they were amazing would be selling them short. Melodic and heavy and just a fun band to experience. I also had the pleasure to interview them for a story I'm doing on the new rock invasion and its coming from all lady rock and metal bands from Japan. BTW great reaction guys, maybe for your next one try a new one called Influencer. Rock On from NYC

When Miku sings her lines..you see Kanami sitting infront blocking Miku's monitor...hence Miku looking down at her with a "what are you doing?" look..This is because Miku messed up her lines in another performance and Kanami was trollng her!...hehehe!...She still does it on occasion...Like during recent US tour.. In NJ I think it was...When they played "FREEDOM"...Kanami sits down infront of Miku on a equipment case and Miku looks at her like. "Really?!"..but smiles and gives Kanami a heart...hehe!

I think now you can see how they don’t stick to one style. Warning and Freedom are totally different each other and both are different from Dice and Unleash and Puzzle.

Okyu-ji is pronounced “oh kyu gee” and means “serving.” Since they’re maids, that’s what they call their concerts.

Another banger of a reaction, and aye. You typically hear Kanami's lead work in the right channel if one is listening in stereo, especially with headphones. Like Kanami's lead guitar solos, Akane's drum solos are so tasty as are Misa's bass ones. edit: for the guitar people out there, I think Kanami is in standard tuning here versus the drop D she was using in "WARNING."

You need to check out the all female/all sibling band The Warning from Mexico. I highly recommend the recently released live video of their performance of "Disciple" from the Teatro Metroplitan in Mexico City. I discovered Band Maid through The Warning as they are also huge Band Maid fans.

It's kinda wild that this song is such a fan favorite. but, only because the lyrics are in such contrast to the feel of the song. IIRC, this song was also one of the ones they didn't write themselves. Either way, the part I enjoy the most is seeing Miku and Kanami strumming together beside each other.

Yay, guys! Another good one! On band-produced media the lead guitar is almost always on the right channel with rhythm on the left. If you like "Domination" and "Freedom" Lives you're going to love "Play" official live... oh and "Onset" of course... Sheesh it's so hard to recommend Band-Maid songs 'cause more just keep popping up. Thanks for the reaction!

They are as tight in concert as they are on their albums...but with even more energy. If you get the chance find a ticket for their US performances this year. I saw then last October and will see them again this May. 7 months between seeing shows is too long.

They are playing at the festival in Daytona Beach too. Can't remember the dates off hand, but its out there! Another smart review guys. Think you are hitting the real tricks of this band style and compositions many are falling in love with in the states.

A lot of fans call Band Maid "metal", which I think isn't really all that accurate. I feel they're a rock band that just pulls a lot of stylistic influences in depending on their mood. They have SOME songs that are metal for sure, some 70's style groove rock or heavy metal, some 80's style metal, some prog rock, and a surprising amount of punk, which you noted.

The only drummer I've seen have smile as much as Akane does the entire time they're playing was Taylor Hawkins. Sad we'll never be able to see that smile again.
