In this episode we've made it to the legendary Mokohinau Islands and are kayak fishing in paradise. The sea is FULL of life, and we're surrounded by MASSIVE swarms of hungry fish and predatory birds the entire day. The fishing is on fire, with snapper and yellowtail kingfish chasing our soft plastics, but simply exploring the coves and cave systems here would be plenty to keep us busy for the entire week. There are also sharks hunting in the area...

Great video. I used to be a commercial fisherman in the south island in the nineties. Maddest fuck I ever worked with took a surfboard onboard and we would drop him over the side and he would surf the storm swells. Unreal shit 100 kms offshore....before the PC brigade

The "parrot fish" is called a Sandager's Wrasse, they are the laziest fish I've ever caught, you barely notice you've hooked up it's almost like you're dragging seaweed. Quite happy to chill out in shallows too, we see them quite often just roaming round the kelp and they don't seem to get spooked by us/shadows like other fish

I caught a Granddaddy Hapuka on my first ever boat fishing trip when I was about 10. As I grabbed it to take it off the hook the rest of the boat went "NooOOOOoOOOoOOoo!!" but it was too late. My hand was useless for some time and the pain was terrible.

@@YakFishField Maybe you could look into Kite Fishing, if the wind/water is too much for the 'Yaks to go out... (I used to do that around Catalina, Coronado, and ALL the Channel Islands. caught some Big Fish, too!). I "Salivate", every time your Video comes on... Haha!
