"Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring captures the essence of our collective struggle, echoing louder in today's world. We were those kids, and it seems the cycle continues with conditions worsening for the next generation. But amidst the chaos, rock and metal have always been our glue, the powerful force that held us together. These genres are more than music; they're a community, a form of resistance, and a source of strength. As we navigate these turbulent times, let's remember the bond that rock and metal have forged among us. They've been our solace, our rallying cry, and our call to unity. Let's lean on that unbreakable bond, support one another, and continue to be the change we've always sought. Together, with rock and metal as our anchor, we can weather any storm.

Yeah I think most of us fell through the cracks. School just wants to to graduate, they don’t care as much if you cheat or not on tests. They just want to get themselves a good score so they can get more money. Teachers are crushed by the amount of work, student behavior, educational board requirements, im sure there’s more. Parents just want to see you succeed. But they won’t tell you how to. Or teach you how to bc that’s the “schools job” I think there is a fundamental disconnect between parents, school boards and teachers. I think it’s safe to say that Americans schools are useless when it comes to getting kids, teens and young adults ready for the “real world” It’s no wonder people fail hard after high school or college.

Friends actually killed themselves, smoked weed and were unemployed. That's how it is. I decided a few years ago to become the master of my own destiny. Everyone is responsible for getting themselves out of their own mess. Pull yourselves together and blame YOURSELVES. You can do it.... we are all gonna make it brah, that's it.

This song is a textbook example of good songwritting. Every 4 measures the storytelling from the lyrics goes deeper and deeper, avoids sounding redundant and keeps adding tension for the chorus to be expected and it hits just on time so the message from it hits harder each time and the melodic elements like the bass line, the guitar solos and riffs are simple and effective, very well implemented.

Offspring, i hate to say, can be formulaic with their music however, as you said, textbook. Rhyme, meter, verse, chorus and refrain. And their music is just great and still holds up decades later.

@@devild1986 Every song follows a formula whatsoever, but I get what you mean. Still, I think that whether you follow a more conventional song structure or not each section must collide properly, let's say there's a song that wants to "be different" and add a pre-verse that doesn't fit, in that case I'd rather listen to a more conventional song in terms of structure, but well implemented.

Stay strong won't you, YT comments isn't usually the greatest place esp. when you're feeling fragile but honestly things can and will improve... I'm 40 now, was in my early 30's when I finally got that "spark" that kicks off things getting on track. Until then I'd gone from being young and hopeful in my teens/early 20s to spending about 12 years jaded and smoking a lot of heroin and crack (fear of needles saved my life there!) but things are so much better now. trust me, no matter how down you are and how bad shit gets you just never can ever know what's around the corner. Was just coming to the comments to say this tune somehow always puts me in mind of Chester Bennington, even having it all can't cure a depressive personality, but sometimes it takes very little at all to help out. hopefully this comment helps even one person to just keep on keeping on and not taking the permanent way out. Peace and love.

To all the people expressing their grief over how kids still aren't alright: don't miss the fact that it's punk, not some sad ballad. And what it means to me is that if kids aren't alright, we should all stand up and fight for them instead of simply diagnosing the problem 🫵

This was one of the first albums I ever purchased for myself as a teenager. This was one of my favourite tracks... I used to listen to it without knowing how much relevance the song would hold in life now over 20 years later. Pretty insane. One of us OD'd One of us died in an accident One of us got addicted to crack and vanished One of us can't get past the struggle for minimum wage One of us has been on suicide watch multiple times and can't hold any sort of job One of us has an unknown illness that's slowly killing him One of us is an accomplished type of person but can't break their gambling addiction One of us got handed the family business but that's his life now One of us fell into family life with a toxic relationship One of us went crazy One of us went overseas One of us actually made it somewhere themselves in life And then there's me. I was born with an anxiety disorder. I used to think I'd fall into some category there above... but oddly enough life is panning out ok. You know, for all those burned dreams and long gone aspirations I have now, hearing this song really puts it into perspective just how lucky I am to be on the path I'm on, even though life isn't exactly as I'd hoped it would be nor am I nowhere near any position I'd like to be in with my career and family life, I'm happy and have a direction in life to move in. Just that alone counts for more than most it seems. Oh how lucky I really am.
