@@elflakeador09 Rubbish. Try telling that to Steve Staunton and Niall Quinn, stars of the Italia '90 side which nearly made the semis themselves. Jason McAteer and Gary Kelly were involved in USA '94. Robbie Keane was a star of Ireland's European Champion under-18 side. Damien Duff was a World Cup semi-finalist at youth level too. So putting Keane on that pedestal is just arrogance and ignorance. Sorry to say that.

@Ejrk22 I think Ireland’s success at the Olympics in Tokyo proves otherwise mate. 😉😎 That aside, the likes of Staunton, Quinn et al all had their own accomplishments as players and had a desire to succeed. @Ejrk22 Olympics are usually crapshoots where you often need luck to win. Irish sportspeople for the most part give it their very best and at that level of course they will aim to succeed. I predict that more and more international sporting triumphs will come Ireland's way. And especially after the betrayal that was Michelle Smith in Atlanta in 1996, I think it's a great thing to see an emergence of new sporting talent. ❤🙏👍💪🇮🇪🏆

I was 15 that summer and will never forget the collective sadness of Irish people that our best player ever didn’t play. My generation missed the excitement of the excellent results of the Irish team in the 80s and early 90s, where we perform out of our socks and punched well above our weight (in terms of population size). This video tells me that Roy regrets not gritting his teeth, as he did on the pitch, and giving the thing a rattle. No amount of interviews or books or rants will get us the 02 World Cup back. So this is a good example of why you should avoid storming off in a high pressure situation... which takes a significant measure of self-control and humility. Sometimes, even if you are right, your response to a situation can be wrong. But good luck Roy and all those athletes from our small island who represent us with pride! From a sad 15 year old Dubliner, doing his Junior Certificate!

Then when all is said&done he can tell who he thinks deserves it to go&f##K themselves..I just don't get "It's my ball and I'm going home"type of mentality! .A tremendous player&leader on his day,but a little to narcissistic for my taste..He has acquired himself a rep for being some what argumentative and egotistical, but it seems he's never wrong..Even when he's doing his football Punditry,it appears he's devoloped this "Caricature"for himself,Roy keane, the maverick, always ready to rock the boat and stand up for the disinfranchised..Na it's all about him I'm afraid!

From what I’ve seen of this interview, Roy Keane seems vindicated on the two main issues. Even though it’s obvious that Gary Neville (understandably) doesn’t want to take sides against Alex Ferguson, he clearly implies that Ferguson had been insidiously undermining Keane for some time in order to get rid of him. Hence, the MUTV matter was just a subterfuge used by Ferguson for this purpose. Regarding the Saipan matter, Keane was vindicated by the subsequent John Delaney scandal which highlighted how rotten the whole FAI set up was. Keane wasn’t interested in the “go along to get along” approach which most people adopt in these situations, and which it appears the other Irish players adopted in Saipan.

Whatever about the rights and wrongs, I will agree with Keane about one thing. What did Mick McCarthy think was going to happen when he called Keane out n front of the whole group ? He clearly wanted to show who was boss in front of everyone. It could only end one way.

Roy wanted to win at all costs, a mentality that made Man U such a force to be reckoned with in the 90s and 00s. I also think he knew that he was head and shoulders above the rest of the Irish squad as he WAS a good player and had the medals to prove it and I think he's politely alluding to the majority of the rest of the squad being otherwise quite ordinary and maybe not having his same level of passion or talent (hence the dig at Kenny Cunningham). And whilst I think McCarthy made a serious error of judgement to single out Roy in that way and call into question his commitment, there was obviously a longstanding problem between them that eventually boiled over. Having said that, McCarthy's record as a club and international manager is actually pretty decent whilst Roy's is woeful because of their differing approaches.

Keane helped bring the best out of Beckham, Giggs, Neville and Scholes by leading by example. They would walk through fire for him. No reason why he couldn't have brought that out of the Duff, the other Keane, Harte and Finnan who were established players in their own right and played against that Man U side many times over the years. They knew what Keane brought to the table and knew it was exactly what they needed. McCarthy brought this on himself by being lackadaisical about the appalling facilities and just accepting mediocrity given the fact that he didn't have what it took as a player. If that had been Jack Charlton or Ferguson, you can guarantee they wouldn't have stood for such pathetic standards. McCarthy has an inferiority complex which is why he was never an eighth the player that Keane was

He NEVER accused him of faking an injury. HE flip-flopped about leaving the camp, HE told McCarthy to tell the press it was due to 'personal problems', HE undermined the manager and the squad with those two stupid interviews, and HE abused his manager in the most vile way possible. I must say after all these years there's still a division here in Ireland on who was right. I'M a Liverpool supporter have been all my life but I will say I still think Roy Keane was 100% right. Just look at the documentary that came out yrs later, Champagne Football. What really annoys me even today and this comes from a none drinker are person who goes into pub's. Roy will walk in and being the generous person he is will have a free bar for as long as he's there the likes of the Top of Hill, blokes will accept free drink and slate Roy's generously with a smart comment like I only got 6 pint's. What a load of hypocrisy there some of the same bloke's that would argue Roy was wrong about Saipan. All I know about Roy Keane is he one proud Cork man, the work he does for the charities here is something not many know about. I hated Roy played for UTD but as a man a human being I'd like him in my corner if I was in a tricky situation. Keano Keano Keano 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Keane let Ireland down big time. Irrespective of the manager or whaddaboutery he was wrong. Let the country down and should never have been allowed to be asst manager. Disgrace.

Hate Gary, he is liar, can see and read his face during the section on Fergie. Get a pair man. You are out of the club. Still you are scared? I am ashamed. Becks did the right thing.

He as a narcissist wanted to be seen for what he wanted ! To be the best and the attention !! Jesus,of course he wanted to win it,and been seen for glory ! He got called on it,in the most ridiculous way imaginable, such a shame, had Ireland hung on against Macedonia in ‘99 with 7 seconds to go for Euro 2000 and automatic qualification when he wasn’t even on the pitch, none of this would’ve happened…

Wrong wrong and wrong again. Keane's playing record speaks for itself, Man U cleaned up under him for 6 years. He helped bring the best out Beckham, Giggs, Neville, Scholes etc. He knew how good they were and he knew how good Robbie Keane, Ian Harte, Steve Finnan and Damian Duff could be as well since he'd squared off against them many times in the league, They likewise experienced first hand the wrath of that Man U side and having the captain of that wrecking ball of team leading them in Korea was going to light a fire in them...Keane wasn't going to compromise with a manager/former 3rd rate player who settled for less than leaving it all on the pitch...all of that preparation that led Man U to success started away from the pitch. McCarthy accepting rubbish like training pitches with barbed wire sticking out, feckless layabouts like John Delaney and co. living it up in first-class while the team sit in economy eating cheese sandwiches when they need proper food to train.....a testament to why he was always stations below Keane and the rest of that squad.....corrosive mindset and it's why Ireland is now being managed by someone who makes McCarthy look like Alf Ramsey....a 4-cap League of Ireland reject
