Matt, dont give the tobacco tin away. Keep it, the lone star can, the tile and anything else you dig up. Find someone who can preserve and mount them for you. Then display them somewhere like the gift shop, restaurant or booking in office, as pieces of thr ranches history. Just like bunker branding has stuff that youve shot in demo ranch videos.

keep the tobacco can and at some point create a history corner of the property somewhere in the main building and display relics you found on the property, along with historic pictures etc. It helps entertain people, gives them something to look at and creates conversation pieces. People connect a lot more with a property when they can learn about the history of it.

Prince Albert in a can... As a kid, not a boomer, use to crank call the local 711 and ask, "do you have prince Albert in a can?" (in deepest prepubcent voice). When clerk respond, "yes," would say, "you better let him out, he's suffocating." and we would laugh for a good bit before the next random crank call... Those days before caller id rocked. Good times. Never got old. We all were Uber-tarded and still are today. Amazing. Thanks for sharing.

I remember in the early 50s watching my grandfather hand roll his cigarettes using Prince Albert tobacco from the can. Then he would strike a kitchen match on the back of his leg in his bib overalls to light it. I always liked the smell of the first puff on his cigarette. It was several years later that I figured out it was the smell of the match igniting that I liked and not the smell of the tobacco. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me. My grandfather died when I was 7 in 1956.

Aquifers aren't caves.... that's how media likes to portray them, but in reality, they are porous geologic layers that are saturated with water. They don't have entrances like this. Instead, they refill by water soaking in through the ground and percolating through flaws in the strata.

The harnesses you’re wearing are only gonna hurt you if a collapse happens. There’s 2 types of fall protection, fall arrest, and fall restraint. You are wearing a fall restraint setup. Which means you need no slack in your rope at all times because if you do fall you are going to get whipped to all hell when the rope reaches tension. If you wanna have slack you need a fall arrest setup with a buffer commonly known as a “shock pack”. An improperly used harness can break bones, cut of circulation, or even strangle the user. Not something to take lightly.

Silver Dollar City is a theme park in southern Missouri that started by some people finding a huge beautiful cave system - Marvel Cave. I’ve toured the cave a few times and it’s equally amazing every time!

If it’s fill and dirt and crap then bring a pressure washer in there and blast away whatever is water soluble. It’ll get taken to a lower part of the cave if such a thing exists. Gravity helps. Then there’s less crap to extract and as a bonus you can get a nice clean look at everything.

you should construct a roof over the hole to deflect the rain to collect for use in a pressure washer. and have a beam with a winch to crane your buckets to save on an escavator.

Get a large pump and a lot of 2-inch fire hoses run it from the river and wash out the hole. If there are still cracks in the structure, it should wash out the dirt going further down.

Should look into hydro excavation would be less back breaking work if you can get a large vac truck or some kinda pump and some real strong pressure washers to cut through the mud and dirt and clean all the other surfaces around the cave so far and make it look a lot cooler in there

We have a similar attachment we got for our drill that’s technically for mixing cement but we also used it as a mini tiller for our garden lol worked great both for a small spot in our garden that needed tilling as well as mixing the bucket of cement we needed for a patch up in our garage. Those attachments are really handy.

He talked about maybe getting a Hydrovac a few cave videos ago but Hasn't. I'm wondering if maybe it's too expensive to justify or there are too many bigger pebbles/rocks mixed in with the soil and it would jam things up but idk much about Hydrovac systems and their limits. Edit: Just doing a quick and dirty google search, it looks like a Hydrovac truck rental runs about the same hourly cost as renting an excavator like they are currently.
