When they talk with Izzy, he tells him "He was either going to watch the world burn or die trying, so which was it?" I somehow missed this line even tho its really important: Stede doesnt have a false perception of Ed, he only refuses to accept that Ed cant get better (kianetomoe4905) -Izzy THE spewer stood up in the middle of a storm with one leg to save the crew; he truly overcame all obstacles just to stop Ed from killing them, thats so powerful. (LordKahra) -In season 1 episode 4, Ed talks about how he imagined he'd die one day by being "massaged by mermaids". If this his ideal death, then its really interesting that in his moment of dying Stede showed up as a mermaid. I didn't really have strong opinions about Izzy (aside from the fact that his actor did a phenomenal job), but this season has me tearing up for him and I would like to give him a hug.

I think the reason they have 8 episodes is bc of the budget. They spent it on locations. Also my god you are so right, Izzy is so stealing the show this season it's insane. He became so complex sheesh.

Izzy the spewer went out into a storm and saved the fucking day. That's such powerful symbolism. Izzy has reclaimed his agency, and I can't wait to see how he changes now that he's living for himself/the crew. I watched season one a few times before the drop, and I started realizing how manipulative Edward was towards Izzy.

Something with Ed seeming better mentally before the whole storm mutiny thing is probably a calm before the storm comparison. But also, suicidal people are actually known to seem like they're doing much better once they have figured out a plan to kill themselves. It's a sort of relief that they have finally found a way to escape their pain. So it's very nice that they had that attention to detail when it came to his mental health struggles.

I wondered last season why Ed was so damn hostile on the treasure hunt. I vaguely thought his aversion to land might also be tied to his childhood trauma, not just embarrassment, but there wasn't much to go on. Seems pretty confirmed now. And worse now. Funny how Ed goes hyper masculine intimidation mode when he's worried about his reputation. I keep seeing people complain that Izzy only cares about Ed's image, but it seems Ed cares about it a hell of a lot too. I wonder if Izzy has any idea how much of Blackbeard is just a mask that Ed's been wearing most of his life. It's not like Ed would have shown him. And I doubt Izzy would have encouraged Ed to talk - before they met Stede anyway. I had a thought about the snake attack scene. So Blackbeard acting so uncomfortable around people who will judge him for treasure hunting easily reads as a metaphor for being gay and uncomfortable around straight people you have to put on an act for. Ed's terrified the mask will slip and they'll all see. I think David Jenkins is using the metaphor in a more broad sense of social pressure on personal identity, but the parallel is there. Anyway, it's funny how the snake scene fits in as a religious metaphor. Temptation/sin caught Ed by surprise and he violently killed it. Like a closeted guy who attacks another gay dude to prove he's not tempted by such sin. But then Stede arrives, calms him down, and they eat the temptation/sin. Ya know, like a certain apple. And that's when the 'this is happening' moment occurs. Cool how that fits.

13:30 Just as Izzy's and Ed's relationship is toxic, so is the Crew's and Ed's. The mutiny is represesntative of a victim(s) standing up to their abuser, mirroring (or supporting) Izzy's arc. They didn't mutiny earlier because they also cared about Ed, and deluded themselves that its gonna get better or that the situation insn't as bad (as shown in the cake eating scene, for example). It's only when Ed goes completly over the edge and they're pushed to deperation is when they finally admit that they need to free themselves from him

My current theory: at least a small time jump of a few months. Some time for everyone to properly heal and forgive each other and for Ricky to join the navy and rise in ranks. As he seems like he’s a commander of some kind in the trailer. That or Ricky was undercover from the start and hunting down Ed by trying to follow Stede.

I feel like the guy from Ed's dream (forgot his name) reminds me of the metatron from Good Omens for some reason Also, the island from Ed's dream is the same place that was in Stede's dream

i was an Izzy fan last season. I just knew there had to be more to him than just the right-hand man schtick and was fascinated by how Con O'Neill portrayed the character. These first 3 episodes being so Izzy heavy really warmed my heart even as I had to deal with the Jim/Olu situation. Also I hope The Swede joins the Revenge again at some point:/

I have a different take on Izzy's hate for Stede (and his love for Ed). I think he genuinely saw Stede as a threat and was just trying to protect Ed and the crew. We see how protective of the crew he gets in season 2 and even early in season 1, when Ed didn't care some of his people died, but Izzy did. And they died for Ed's obsession with the 'gentleman pirate' he haven't even met at that point. My theory regarding Jim and Olu: They will resolve this in season 3. Since I'm sure Ed and Stede will be together by the end of season 2 and Lucius and Pete are already solid they will use this pairing for some drama.

i'm also confused about what they're trying to do with jim and olu, hopefully they end up in a poly relationship

I didn't notice at first, cause I was so emotional over the ending of episode 3, but they paralleled s1e3 where Ed and his crew swooped in and saved Stede with Stede now saving Ed from certain death 😭😭😭 This show will be the death of me 😅💜🏳️‍🌈🏴‍☠️

Hi! I was waiting for your review on the series! I loved your opinion, the only thing I see differently is that I think Stede really understands Ed's breakdown. Izzy tells him "you didn't really know him" and he responds "he wanted to see the world burn or die trying, so which was it?" Stede has been following Blackbeard's crimes and heard what he did to the crew. In fact, it's Izzy who hasn't gotten to know Ed. Did Izzy ever play "Jeff the Barber" with Ed? Izzy didn't even want to hear Ed talk about the shape of clouds! Izzy loves being a pirate and he loves Blackbeard but he didn't realize that Ed was already tired and depressed even before Stede showed up. And I hope that happens, that Izzy realizes that he didn't really know Ed. But above all, I want Stede to realize that everything horrible that Ed did is not just because Stede left him. Ed was sinking (and ed says so verbatim) before stede arrived. In fact, when his plan on September 1 failed, he was ready to die. He was already on that path. Pd: And I also want Ed to learn to love himself and from there build his relationship with Stede, obviously.

100% agree on the izzy and blackbeard stuff, also was pretty neutral on izzy until this season. But also in a lot of the discussion on the topic people leave out that it was izzy who brought villain Blackbeard/the kraken back to life- initially ed was happy just wallowing in self pity and going by “edward.” It was izzy who bullied him back to being a villain, and even after his first toe was cut off, izzy was finally satisfied.

I definitely think that Ed's actions won't just be forgiven. From Lucius already so blatantly being angry at Stede, and everyone being pretty pissed at Ed, I think that Stede might have to choose between staying with his crew or leaving the ship with Ed. What he chooses to do though, we will have to see, as the trailer/teaser indicates a bit of both. Another possibility is that Ed might choose to leave alone so as to not do more harm (and as a result of self-hatred). I think that this could lead to Stede choosing to follow him, as shown by the various scenes in the trailer which seem to indicate a sort of break in their relationship (and annoyance at Stede for the following). I know we won't see this resolved until the end of S2, but man I wish they could just be happy already😭

Thank you for the entertaining video and for feeding my need to be thinking of this show 24/7. The one thing that has surprised me is people's reaction to the Jim and Olu development. Olu did not seem upset, merely surprised that Jim had found someone else they actually like(seems rare xD). Also, Olu was not upset when Jim said he was their best friend, so I really don't think it was meant to indicate "friendzoning". It felt more like Jim was saying they felt a little bad kissing someone else while being unable to communicate with Olu about the development.

Jim and Olu may have been my favorite couple last season. And we got more of their relationship that we did of Pete and Lucius, so I find it funny that’s the couple they chose to break up. Splitting up Lucius and Pete to give their relationship more development would have been a better use of screen time instead.

i really don´t think izzy knew Ed at all, like he lived with him, but he only knew the idealized version of him in his mind, when ed tried to be himself, just ed teach instead of blackbeard, izzy tried to resign, then sell them and quoting "i should´ve left the english kill you, this is a far worst destine than death". So i really don´t think Izzy knows him at all. That´s also why stede and izzy´s line of "he was going to watch the world burn or die trying" showed izzy that not only Stede knew the good ed and all his secrets but also the "bad" ed and the "doggy heaven phrase" strucked him bad.

Season 2 sucked, season 1 was amazing and funny, had lots of buttons and good characters, season 2 has none of that! Horrible unfunny jokes, the characters are awful, every episode ends with a depressing sad song. Now Buttons is gone and Izzy is gone? This HORRIBLE show needs to be taken behind the barn and put out of its misery!
