Thanks for dropping a video on my birthday. I’ve been fishing mission bay lately and I’ve caught two barracudas. They were everywhere on Thursday chasing the hell out of the bait fish. Great video G. -toilet gang

That's so cool that you're fishing the old school spoons and showing the new generation how it's done. A couple summers back a group of us went up to the Sierras and the fishing had been really slow all over as the planter trout hatcheries were down because of some hatchery trout disease and the covid. No one was catching on Power Bait or worms or anything but we broke out the gold Kastmasters and caught a bunch of brown trout and a few holdover rainbows. I think the lack of crowded planter trout water conditions got the browns active but they wouldn't hit familiar things like Power Bait. When the old timer at the tackle shop found out what we were catching the browns on he said that's how you get it done old school but most fishermen now days only want to fish the latest trendy baits.

I hit mission bay around 11:30 am. Very hot! In 20 minutes I got 1 nice size jack smelt, 2 calico bass and 1 spotty. It was way to warm and sunny for me so I had to go after that. Cheers

kroc is a classic lure for a reason..

I definitely suggest swapping it out for a J hook, maybe not quite as big as the one that came with it but it's been proven that it's a lot harder for fish to bite onto a treble hook than a J hook or circle hook. Also you're far more likely to foul hook it or hook yourself with a treble than with a J hook.. though it is possible to foul hook with a J, I can't tell you how many fish eyes I've caught over the years trolling... so gross. Also anything over an ounce is legally required to have a single J or circle hook in California. Also try adding a strip of cut bait onto it, something with really shiny skin and really oily flesh (that little mackerel would be perfect cut bait) the scent on the hook can really stir up interest and make them bite. We've always used krocodiles for freshwater in the rainbow trout colors (blue/pink/white with dots) mostly just trolling but sometimes just casting off the bank too. We did try using really big needlefish when we were up in Crescent City once though, my dad bought a few up in Brookings Oregon that were brass/orange tiger print and bout 4 inches long. We never did catch anything while fishing up there though, even on bottom rigs. Remember "match the hatch" aka match whatever bait is in the area, if you go with a similar color they are more likely to think it's food.. that or go absolutely obnoxious with the color in like bright chartreuse or dayglow orange and just piss them off and make them attack it lol.. it works for bass and typically it'll work in salt water too.. I've even seen people use bass spinners in salt water and get fish.

I been using copy Kastmasters off Amazon (also modified my way) with scent and it works super well. I landed 5 Bonito while no one else caught anything and there were people everywhere that day. 🤣

Love the Krocodile! What a classic lure! Do you prefer the single or treble hook? Have you used a Johnson Silver Minnow spoon in the bays? I've had Krocs and Silver Minnows in my tackle box since I was a kid and they kick serious ass. The Johnson minnow is super weedless and swims beautifully with a Kalin's Lunker Grub trailer.

I been trying to catch spotted bass for 7 weeks all I did was fail using rapalas and gulps and cut bait the only thing that works is a krokodile with a blue stripe
