Ogma or Oghma is the champion of the Tuatha Dé Danann, pantheon of Irish Gods and Goddesses. He may even be related to the Gallic / Celtic God Ogmios. According to the Ogam Tract, he is the inventor of Ogham, the ancient writing script in which the Irish language was first written. Jon's full class on Oghma is here - irishpaganscho...
At the Irish Pagan School we offer Online Classes on Irish Paganism, Mythology, History, Heritage, Culture, Magic and Spirituality, taught by native Irish Educators, based in County Waterford, Ireland.

I usually make a bigger offering of a whiskey or Irish coffee to Ogma on days when I have papers due or difficult appraisal work. My little desk alter is Brigid and Ogma and ogham. It is my desk that provides us our lively hood and where I practice my craft. It just feels right to have them together there.

"So Lugh, being Lugh..." LOL! Definitely one of great moments in that story. Oghma rocks! And what a great introduction! I'm curious, do we have any other reference of spirits in swords, or talking weapons, outside CMT2:162 ?

Everything about this video is why I love and continue to return to the Irish Pagan School. You all have such an intimate, lived experience of the Lore and it isn't just informative, it is inspiring. I was planning on taking the Ogma class already and now it is first on my list for this summer.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us a tale about Ogma. So intriguing as I am taking the Ogham intensive course and now I would like to set up an altar at my desk to honour Ogam. GRMA!

Seems like the Mórrígan wants me to work with Ogma but I never had interest on working with him before. This video sparked some curiosity and a new perspective, thank you. 🙂

He is pretty epic alright. I love that in the lore when all other Tuatha De Danann are removed from Bres court, there was no one who could equal Oghma as Champion so he couldn't be displaced.

Geez your hair grows fast. I've been including Ogma in my daily offerings for a few months now, and it struck a chord in me when you described him as "a talker" because that's exactly what my experience has been with Ogma in that he does like a good chin wag.

Thank you and Lora so much for the treasure trove of videos you've been creating. It's pulling me out of the spiritual slump I've been in. On my drive home today, I started thinking about teaching about Irish paganism as a non-native person. Lora's videos and classes about appropriation are wonderful, but I still often wonder what level of information is appropriate for non-native people to share and educate on if it's solely for correcting misinformation and ignorance, rather than profit and status? If we're running into resistance to watching, reading, taking classes from native sources, is it appropriate to share correct information and continue to direct people to native sources? Go raibh míle maith agaibh arís!

I do not have a dictionary of definitions, but I have a dictionary of synonyms, and under "Ogma" it is: Ogma=Eleonora, Alegria, Ellen de la Ferre, Hellen, Almariel.

Would Ogma be a deity that would be helpful to work with for someone who is going through University? My major is data analytics and I have had a hard time working with Lugh (similar reasons as you've expressed). If not Ogma, do you know who might be a good deity to work with?
