Oh my god. I'm just coming across this video now, and I instantly recognized the first shot and all of the ruin shots of The Ocean Club. I visited there regularly with my family from 1995 until our last trip there in 2015; one of the scenes (ascending the spiral staircase into a unit) was THE unit we stayed in. St. Martin was our favorite vacation destination, and it as well as the people of the island played a significant role in our lives. It breaks my heart to see all of the buildings and memories erased in an instant, but I'm glad that the resolve and spirit of the people of Saint Martin has remained intact. I haven't returned to the island in many years, but I can't wait to do so sometime soon.

Very nice! I visited St. Martin for the first time two years ago -- Grand Case. My understanding is the French side has been much slower to recover. No doubt the Dutch decision years ago to put the electric grid underground has meant they can bounce back faster. This is an opportunity for France to invest in decentralized solar and wind energy. St. Martin could become an example for communities everywhere, but you will need capital and the political vision to rebuild according to a central plan. So much of the island seemed to lack even the most simple zoning rules -- it was a free-for-all to get the best beachfront property.

I'm sorry to say,I went thru Irma on SXM,and the island has not recovered, it was a dump before the storm, and it is even more of a dump now.
