Your son is SO adorable and I loved watching his progress! I watched this video the afternoon after starting the method. My daughter was melting down and terrified of going to the potty and terrified of failing and it was becoming a catastrophe. I was at the end of my rope and started looking at potty training videos and my toddler started watching with me. IMMEDIATELY after, she was much calmer about the potty! Your video literally saved this PT project 😂

What activities do you do to encourage more talking. I thought my 17 month old had broad speech but your kiddo speaks so clearly
@CarnahanFam
@CarnahanFam 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, Christian has pretty clear speech at this point! You can see a lot of what we do with him in our developmental milestone activities vlogs (we have an 18 month and a 19 month one currently): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itd1jKx6qL3KYJc.html But the biggest thing that we do with him is MODEL, I say "watch my mouth" a lot and try to annunciate the words to him clearly. Also, we really encourage him to expand his sentences. For example, when he was saying 3 words at a time, we would repeat the phrase with 4 words and just help him expand little by little! Let us know if there is something else you'd like to see for your 17 month old and we'll see what we can do to make it happen for you (:

Sussy if your child has good speech do NOT compare him with Christian. Christian is a talker some are walkers others are talkers and most kids understand more than they speak. I find it so sad that people are comparing their child to Christian. Christian is so strong with language but won’t be strong in EVERYTHING. My son is incredibly physically able scoring 60/60 on all his motor skills and can run well, climb stairs and he is only 12 months. BUT this is a strength -ask my son to point no thank you! Comparisonis the thief of joy. If your son is doing well why try and push him further he sounds fantastic!

I’m here a year late but I also watched your daughters video! I started day 1 today, I think we had a few successful moments! We finished 4 wee’s on the potty and did 2 from start to finish (with me saying “go to the potty and do a wee”) and also, one poop! My worry is, she is doing lots of wee’s on the floor and not realising and then we are moving to the potty to try and finish but she doesn’t actually seem to finish the wee. How can I get her to do that? Also, i don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but I truly can’t recognise her cues!!!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

May I ask you: what do you do with public bathroom? I can’t finish potty training my toddler simply because I do not know how he will sit on a dirty, large, high toilet bathroom! It grosses me out just to think about it. We’re going on an international trip in a month and I’m really nervous to potty train him before then for that reason.

Just started today to potty train my 22 months old boy. Following same Oh Crap Potty Training method. First day is over, I’m EXHAUSTED and also frustrated. We had 4 wees and 1 poop successful but so many accidents! I can see from your video that I’m doing 90% same things as you but I’m grateful for one of the advice you gave regarding not rushing a boy to potty when he starts peeing (my son doesn’t speak much yet so he usually gives the signs when is just about to wee). Indeed, when I did rush him, he hardly stayed on potty and didn’t wee at all). I definitely need to change it from tomorrow! Just wondering, how long time did Block 1 take for Christian? I just need to prepare mentally for it 😊 One more question : when my boy say that he wants wee, I put him each time o the potty but he doesn’t do anything. Once I take him off he wees on the floor. Just wondering, shall I keep putting him on potty every single time he tells me this (even if I think it’s just his way to play with mommy) or not? That part is the most frustrating for me as today I ended up putting him on potty literally 80% of the time (every 1minute call). Thanks for all the inspirations, not just about potty training but about all!

Hey Mama! First off, YOU. GO. GIRL! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Potty training is absolutely exhausting... did you see me crying on day 2? 😂And to be honest, your day one sounds like a TON of successful moments! So way to go you! And way to go for your son! To answer your questions: 1) We could have moved on from block one after day 3 but I did another day JUST to be sure! 2) Sounds like your little guy is definitely still trying to figure out that sensation. Absolutely put him on the potty every single time he tells you. I remember (I dont know at what point) but there were 2 straight days, I probably took him 100 times... every hour... 😂 Maybe a bit of an exaggeration but not by too much 😂If you want to take the "playing" out of it, I would make sure for one, you are using a child potty seat, for two, encourage him to run to the potty himself. You might say, "You said "wee wee" (or whatever he says), that means we need to run to the potty. Here, hold my hand, let's run together and sit down on the potty!" Consistency is key. It WILL go away. Especially if you sit down and engage in a fun activity with him, and then just continue to watch for those signs. Soon enough he will start to recognize the feeling of actually needing to go potty and will only say it when he actually needs to go! A learning process for all though, that's for sure! We are so thrilled you are loving our channel! We love having you here with us! ❤️

Help!! I'm a mom about to lose her mind, feeling mentally weak on day 4...I think the hardest thing is trying to pass the time these days. My daughter's "signal" is to cling to me and asks me to carry her, she might start to pat her bottom or her thighs asking for pants. This is all great except she won't let me put her on the toilet until she is mid pee/poo--if I try to bring her over when she's signaling she says "noooo" and clings to me for dear life. Any suggestions??

Also did you kind of time his pees or only put him after he’s already started peeing then have him stop and finish in the potty?
@CarnahanFam
@CarnahanFam 3 жыл бұрын
You probably already are well into potty training by now but just to respond to your questions, we were in block one for 3 or 4 days, I believe... I just waited for him to recognize "I need to pee" and run to the potty. Once I knew he "got it" to that extent (just knowing the process) we moved on. He honestly was doing it on day one, which shocked me, but on day two he had MORE accidents and day 3 he did well and we did an extra day after that just to be sure. And in regards to having him finish in the potty or not, in my experience, there is no way to "make them stop" at this stage developmentally. I would just see he was beginning to pee and say, "Pee pee goes in the potty, let's go to the potty" and if some came out along the way, so be it!

Congrats on starting with your 17 month old! Don't worry if he's still having an accident here and there! It's a big thing for them to learn to control so accidents are going to happen! Potty training really is going great for us! I would consider us not in the "training" phase any more (aside from night training, but we won't start that for a few more weeks.) Every few days he'll have one accident but if I'm good about asking if he needs to go before he goes out side (when he usually has his accident) then he's totally fine! Also, yes, he really is quite the talker! He's on full sentences right now and amazes us every day! Be sure to check out are part 2 if you haven't already! More on potty training! (: Keep up the great work Mama!

@CarnahanFam
@CarnahanFam 4 жыл бұрын
I consider fully potty trained to be when I'm not teaching/prompting him anymore. He can recognize the sensation himself, self initiate that he needs to go and makes his way to the bathroom. Our little guy is still too small to do it independently but I would say that at that point, he is potty "trained" but as he continues to grow and practice, he will just become stronger. Periodic accidents will be expected until he has 100% full control of his bladder which may very well take years ;)

Hi Sara! We’ve never coslept so I’m by no means an expert on this but I do have some thoughts based on principles of heathy child development and creating healthy sleeping habits 💛 1. Start with the crib in your room. Bringing the new sleeping spaceship into your room will help to keep the process gentle and allows for one transition at a time! 2. Create a bedtime routine. Bedtime routines help your child’s body to be able to anticipate the coming events (bedtime), wind down, and overtime more easily fall asleep independently. 3. Give your child a comfort item. Whether is the blanket you two cuddled with or a new stuffed animal that is “a special friend from mommy”, a replacement item to snuggle can be very soothing! I hope some of these help as you get ready for this big transition 🤞🏻💛 Sending you hugs! 🤗 You got this! 👏🏻

@@CarnahanFam thanks, appreciated! I've been trying the method of sitting on a chair in the room (close to the bedroom door) while he falls asleep at night.. its day 3 and he still cries for mamas hugs. It's a work in progress. Much love to you and your gorgeous family! 🤗❤❤

Hey Mama! I know lots of people potty train before one, we just never have so you’ll of course want to evaluate your own kiddo’s readiness! If you decide your kiddos is ready, just keep at it, being completely consistent and it’ll come! You got it! ❤️

Don’t worry Mama! Well of course many people potty train before one we personally haven’t! You’ll want to evaluate your own kiddos readiness of course and if you decide that he’s ready then just keep at it with 100% consistency and it’ll come! You got it! ❤️

We stayed in block 2 for a little bit longer simply because of lack of opportunity due to the coronavirus but it was about 2 weeks for blocks 1 and 2. Soon after we traveled 7 hours and put underwear on so blocks 3 & 4 came quick after each other!

Did you have your husband help with the little one while you focused on potty training?
@CarnahanFam

My husband is a full time student in medical school (granted, remotely during the pandemic) so he was around during regular times of day (meals and such) but mostly sticks to his school routine! We didn't find it was too hard to balance the two while we were potty training but it was probably the stage our little girl was in! She just hung out with me and my son most of the time! There is one scene in this video (6:41) where both of the kids are screaming during lunch and my husband comes out to save me! Thank Heavens because we were all in tears! 😭 ❤️😂 Parenting is so romantic, isn't it? 😉

My son is turning 18 months this week and I want to start potty training him. However, he ALWAYS wants to grab his penis and pull it if he doesn’t have a diaper on. He will even scratch himself (eczema). I’m worried of him being naked and hurting his genitalia 🥺
@CarnahanFam
@CarnahanFam 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah Mama! That’s is tricky! Honestly, the naked phase is so short, just a few days! I wouldn’t worry about it too much and keep him BUSY! Hands busy in play dough, building with blocks, playing with cars, etc. As much work and attention as it will require, it will only be a few days. Make sure his nails are short and he is well lotioned and see how long he can make it on the naked phase because it really is key to identifying the urinating sensation! Best of luck Mama! We’ll be thinking of you! 😊

Are your children vaccinated? Christian is so good at speaking at his age .. I feel The vaccines hinder development, which may have happened with my son, he speaks good but not at clear as your son and he’s almost 2 (22 months).. :(

My son is fully vaccinated and said his first words at 6mos, had an extensive vocab at 12mos, started putting words together at 18mos, and speaking in full sentences at 2 🤷🏻‍♀️

This was so useless for us: It just lead to tons of accidents all over for over a week. The best is to keep them in a diaper or pull up & teach them all about pulling pants down & taking their diaper off to go. That works best and you won’t have messes. The idea of no pants or diapers is ridiculous.
