My friend Lisa is the lead singer's wife, John Wetton. He sadly passed away a few years ago. But I want to share this with her so I will post your reaction on my FB page. His voice has a mesmerizing truth to it and he's been a member of some of my favorite bands, King Crimson and U.K.

@robertjewell9727 I'm finding this a year after the fact, and am wondering if you were able to share this with your friend Lisa Wetton. This is a fantastic tribute to the legacy of John Wetton, and hopefully it has helped with her tremendous loss. I saw Asia in Ft Lauderdale just days ago, and am still in awe over the lead singer they have found, Harry Whitley. I originally did not want to go, since I didn't want to see anyone up there in place of Mr. Wetton. However, the more I thought about it, the more I decided I NEEDED to be there, to pay tribute to the man and his music that I've loved for decades. When the band took the stage, I admit I was a little offended when I quickly noticed that Mr. Whitley was playing a white bass guitar. However, when it was explained that it was actually THE iconic John Wetton bass, dedicated to the tour by Lisa and Dylan Wetton, that was spine-tingling and a focal point for me all evening. I had done no recent research and knew nothing about Harry Whitley, but his vocals completely blew me away! He has an eerily similar voice and vocal power to John, yet offers his own unique personality. He gained a couple of big fans in my wife and I that evening, and probably many more. I'm hoping he chooses to stay with Asia and continue keeping the legacy alive of a great group and a great man. Also, @RobSquadReactions if you're searching for another amazing song from Asia, please give Bury Me In Willow a try! Fantastic song and one of the last by John Wetton.

@@pjg58x Absolutely! Th first 45 single I bought myself (was bought others by family before then) was The Buggles - "Video Killed the Radio Star" (at the age of 11 and was probably a similar age to the little girl on the video). I still love the track just as much now (and Trevor Horn's bass too). I was 14 when Asia (debut album) came out and the first track I heard of course was "Heat of the Moment". That was it - I had to have all their music (and I do) + piano/tablature music. I had the Asia logo on the back of my denim jacket as a teenager (+ AC/DC, Rainbow, Magnum, Saxon etc 🥰). Took ages! I've always loved Asia and still do.

Asia was such a great band. This is a supergroup made up of John Whetton from King Crimson, Steve Howe of the band Yes, Geoffe Downs from Yes and the Buggles and Carl Palmer from the group Emerson, Lake & Palmer. But this song hit MTV with a force in 1981/82. The harmonies are freaking amazing. Gives me chills. With your headphones on you pick up each instrument distinctively. Great pick and reaction! Should be noted that Asia still tour today but John Whetton passed away in 2017 unfortunately. RIP John. MTV was brand new in 1982 and looking for content. Most bands did not have real videos and had to put something, anything together to give rotation on MTV so you will see a lot of early videos that just don't make sense or are completely void of meaning. Budgets for video were none existent since the medium had not yet shown that it was profitable for music. That would quickly change and record companies would then push big dollars into video content. It made many bands successful, and even ruined some careers ( Billy Squier). But looking back on some of these video's as cheesy as they are, they were great for those of us growing up in this era. We were mesmerized by it. Our eyes glued to the tv.

As a little kid I loved Renaissance "Northern Lights" (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtiRpbpir9_Hf3k.html ) - one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar (had to learn barre chords because it's in E major). When I heard the rest of the album (A Song For All Seasons) I think my dizzy little head exploded! Real prog rock! Dad introduced me to Genesis, Yes and Uriah Heap. A friend's Dad introduced me to Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and the Moody Blues. A classmate introduced me to Rush. I think hearing epic bands at a young age spoils you. I'll never forget seeing Asia live on their first tour at SPAC in Saratoga New York back in the early 80's when they released their first album. The band came out on stage dressed entirely in white and then delivered such a tight set that you weren't sure if you were listening to the studio album or not. They allowed each musician his own spotlight throughout the performance, professional, polite and extremely humbled by the crowd's reaction. If you've only done this (great song) and Heat of the Moment, here's what you've got to hit: 1. SOLE SURVIVOR (proggiest, usually the encore) 2. WILDEST DREAMS 3. HERE COMES THE FEELING 4. MIDNIGHT SUN 5. WITHOUT YOU Asia was a Progressive Rock Supergroup. John Wetton>lead singer/bass from Uriah Heep, Roxy Music, King Crimson, UK Steve Howe>guitars YES Geoff Downes>keyboards The Buggles (Video Killed the Radio Star), YES Carl Palmer>Drums Emerson, Lake &Palmer (ELP)

Asia was one of my favorites. My favorite songs (besides this and "Heat Of The Moment") are "Don't Cry", "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes", and "Summer Can't Last Too Long" (which was never a hit, but just one of their tracks I loved.).

'wildest dreams','sole survivor','one step closer','time again','without you','cutting it fine','without you'. this first asia album can be listened to over and over without one bad song in the bunch! thank you for getting back to them. this IS the best version of ASIA!

Since you loved this song, you will love "Don't Cry" even more. Also, "Voice Of America" is a great song and a different vibe. "Don't Cry" is one of Asia's biggest hits.

Glad that you reacted to this song, it has very special meaning for me, even though I’d never heard of the song until 1996 or 97. If possible I’d like to recommend another John Mellencamp song, “Crumblin’ Down” but you really need to watch the official video not just listen to the audio, please. The video is very impressive and entertaining. Thank you for reading this and enjoy the rest of your weekend. I’m 67 and alone in life and I have to admit that Amber & J have become like honorary family to me I’ve come to love them like family, anyway, I hope that that isn’t embarrassing.

The AOR, yacht rock and party rock of the late 70s and early 80s were the best!!! When I say party rock I refer to Cheap Trick, J Geils Band, Sweet, stuff like that! The AOR I think includes Styx, Kansas, Asia, Toto, Boston, April Wine, Loverboy, ELO, Survivor, Saga, 38 Special, Alan Parsons Project, Yes, Eddie Money, Rick Springfield, Bryan Adams, Billy Squier, LOTS of AOR rock!!

Favorite song by Asia, glad you tried it and enjoyed it. Now while everyone’ll tell you to check out “Don’t Cry” or “The Smile Had Left Your Eyes”, I’d recommend you jump to 1992 when they reformed with a different lead singer, John Payne, and try “Someday” or “Who Will Stop the Rain”, or the ballad “Crime of the Heart”. Also, since you love harmonies, why haven’t you tried Stryper’s “Calling On You” yet? LOL, think it would be right up your alley!

Thank you, thank you, thank you ❤❤❤! One of my favourite bands of all time - so many awesome songs. "Don't Cry" is probably my favourite but there are so many "My Own Time (I'll do what I want)" (used to play that LOUD if I was p*ss*d with my parents!) is fantastic from the same album. I love their later songs too like "Who will stop the rain?" and "Voice of America". "One step closer" is a lovely ballad. More, more, more! 🥰
