To be fair Alice, firstly Newcastle are allowed to handle the Ashworth situation however they want. It's not like Man U have ever done anything decent for Newcastle, you reap what you sow. If Man U are as big and as wealthy as they claim, they should pay the money like Newcastle did to get him from Brighton. And if they don't pay what is being asked, they have to wait until his contract is over. Secondly, Ashworth knew what he was doing and has done something that probably breached his clauses and terms in his contract. And let's not pretend that if it was the other way around, if Newcastle were buying Ashworth from Man U and this cake to light. All the Man U fans would be calling for Ashworth's head. From a purely Company Law position, Dan Ashworth as the head of operations and part of the board of directors owes a fiduciary duty to act in goodfaith. That is to not undermine the shareholders or the entity. What he did is a gross violation of fiduciary duty to go behind the clubs back. I have won many court cases against former directors that did the same.

Sorry Alice, this is damning for Man Utd, Berrada and Ashworth. The mail was sent from an Ineos account, Berrada was on gardening leave and Ashworth was still in previous employment. Ineos executives and managers are bound by legal contracts, including gardening leave and protection of sensitive information, so Jim and team are aware of this. Let’s hope this does go to court as I suspect this is the tip of the iceberg and if Man Utd are found to be tapping up, they can expect strong sanctions.

Ashworth i have long questioned if he is worth the time , effort and compensation. Not sure why we didn't just go for Mitchell from the off an offer him the DoF role that he would have accepted - Mitchell's recruitment to me is more impressive and he was there free , available and could have started work months ago. Or just appoint him or someone else as an interim DoF until Ashworth's notice / leave is up. I think the issue with NUFC and Ashworth is that they likely built a recruitment project for the next few years, and Dan going to a premier league competitor allows him to disclose another rich clubs strategy for the next couple of years. Can you point me to a reliable source that confirms Newcastle have ever asked for £20m? I'm not that bothered about seeing him leave Newcastle. This notion of downplaying De Zerbi is appalling...He did not excel this season and which is not helped when best your best CMs are sold with no replacements and they were heavily affected by injuries. But what remained constant is they dominated games and maintained their style of play. They dominated us even though we won with the 11 they had which on paper is bang average as compared to ours.
