Waterdancer can make a big weapon. Cause the rogue gift is 1. So you get a copy of it that costs zero alongside the Deadly Poison which also costs 1 and thus gives a copy. 2 Poison from deck=2 mana cost+2 free Poison 2 Gift from deck=2 mana cost+2 free Gift 2 Poison from initial Gifts=2 mana cost+2 free Poison 2 Poison from free Gift=2 cost+2 free Poison 6 mana for 12 Deadly Poison. So you can do it either with Waterdancer on the board or drop her on turn 10. Since you’re likely running Excavate, all that damage goes on your Shovel unless you’ve used both already in which case it goes on your daggers with 1 less durability.

I think the Watercannon could have easily been 3 mana 2/3 weapon, would have made the effect more efficient for the cost while shifting the focus to the effect rather than the raw weapon stats.

maybe boucing up the miniaturize pirate before goldbeard to have board space and mana for combos will be the way to go

Sonya Waterdancer will be broken for the Excavate Rogue in Standard. Copying 1 mana cost cards that gets generated by Azurite Scorpion will be so good.

As someone who perpetually overestimates card strength based on my own personal hype, I gotta agree with Regis here. Goldbeard just requires you to play pirates in a way they dont normally like to (withholding cards, lowering tempo for future combo ) and I think the payoff is just not as explosive as it would need to be to make that trade worth it. I would love to be wrong, as I love pirate decks, but I think people tend to overreact whe. they see Rogue get combo payoff cards.

Shuffle Rogue maybe could work? Fal'dorei Striders early game on turns 4 and 5, then later Sonya and Gear Shift on turn 6. You get to cast Gear Shift again for 0, so total of twice. You draw 7 that turn including first draw; then Everything Must Go! costs 1, so you play that and then get a 0 cost to play again. 6 mana to drop four random 4-costs + Sonya + any draws from Striders.

Rogue looks like most fun to play (as) so far.

The only thing he’s shoplifting is your mana, the amount needed is abysmal

Scoundrel is the kind of card where the mini and shadowstep/bounce will probably result in an OTK somewhere. It reminds me too much ot Scabbs. The rest of the set might not even be used in whatever combo deck, but that card seems really easy to sleep on.

Crystal cove would work well with the new weapon. A 4/4 that attacks randomly right away could be great tempo no?

Goldbeard is the ultimate magical Christmas land card. The example clip in Alliestrasza's video did 8 damage to face for 10 mana + a weapon in play. Probably better ways to do it.

Goldbeard might have a fun combo in wild with kingsbane and Raiders with octobot discounts which you have pit stop to tutor them and can ping them with harmonic. Kingsbane is already a decent deck in wild so Goldbeard might make a fun version of it (and not so good version)

I’m thinking pirates are busted. Lots of ways to push aggro and mid game. That means the legendary doesn’t need to do heaps of damage, just enough to finish off the opponent, so your payoff only needs to be “crystal cove” plus some arbitrary “summon a copy” pirate. Having burst damage also means surviving through a Reno which is nice. That being said, I agree with the card by card ratings

Despite the reservations, it sure looks like rogue mana cheat and coin generation (and bounce effects to keep him around) will make Goldbeard viable.

Dude, Sonia would just kill with the Wishingwell and a bunch of coins. You get a bunch of one cost legendary and you play them with her and Bam. You get zero cost legendary. All you’re hoping is you just get legendary from the wishing well

My rule of thumb for rogue is 5 cost cards or lower. Anything above 5 mana… not happening.

goldbeard is such a expensive and not very good payoff. Like ok you sent 6 damage face? Thats it? Maybe you build a big weapon and play the pirate that buffs off weapon. Is that card even still in standard?

I've played wishing well to legend the last couple of months, and I am bullish on this set helping it out. A pirate backup wouldn't be bad for the draw. The sonya is just upside. The deck is losing most of its draw, so i think the weapon, boat, 1 cost spell and mana cheat pirate could fit.

Goldbeard has a problem with it's wording, the way it reads currently it should create an infinite loop. Goldbeard summons a copy of a pirate and since he summoned a pirate he would proc again and summon another.

I feel like there's a strong chance you're underestimating goldbeard. I remember opening patches on day one and i was so pissed because it seemed like the lamest and underwhelming legendary I had ever seen. But the effect ended up being bonkers. There are enough pieces here to make this card devastating

Is it just me or is Everything Must Go just straight up a 0 star card. The last thing you want on a pop off miracle turn are 2 random 4 costs… Additionally, Sonya with the excavated spells that cost (1) + tess is going to be a rng fiesta and my main deck lmao
