The story is that a girl has a one night stand with a male stranger she meets and ends up, later on, getting pregnant and having a child from him. Hence, when the man saw the woman again but she is carrying a child with her, he realized that the child is his while the girl tearfully explains that she did it because she is “in love with another man” who is unable to father any children from her. It’s purely a heartbreaking and messed-up story while the song and the music is great to hear. I am glad you’ve enjoyed the song.
@michellebarry15552 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was his child. The man she is in love with couldn’t give her a child so she found someone who could. “I am the flower, you are the seed. We walked in the garden and planted a tree.” She did use him, like you said.
@MsUltrafox2 жыл бұрын
You can imagine his surprise. When he saw his own eyes. Yeah, he saw his own child that he didn't know he had.
@Trifler5002 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Certainly a somewhat dangerous way to find someone to make you pregnant, what with STDs and such, but it's romanticized. Such things don't exist in stories. :)

It has more to do with the video, actually. Notice we hardly get to see her. It was cuz of her weight issues. The music industry put her thru absolute hell, cuz they thought she was too fat! I could care less, what size she was, she is one BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED LADY! 🥰
@icspots2351 Жыл бұрын
She (Ann) said she didn't like it because the guy was used and had no say so about the child. If she had known how popular it would be, she wouldn't have recorded it, because then she had to sing it in concerts all the time. Not quoting the interview, but that is pretty much the summery of it.

This one has an intense story to it. And yes, when she said “he saw his own eyes”, that was his baby. Ann Wilson is a tremendous female vocalist. If you notice in this video they barely show Ann Wilson, and when they do it’s just from the shoulders up. The record label had a huge issue with the fact that Ann had gained quite a bit of weight and felt it impacted their marketability. So they used filters to make her look thinner and barely showed her. Heart said after this album they would never again do music videos. It was a huge problem between them and the record label.
@stevemchale97752 жыл бұрын
I'm not bothered with her weight at all. She gorgeous. However seeing her live row 2 in the 80's it was a bit of a shock. I guess for the reasons you stated.
@robdaviesprogm2 жыл бұрын
The weight issue goes back as far as at least the mid-'80s when they had their commercial renaissance. You can see the camera angles, costuming and lighting dancing around her weight gain, and as you mentioned, she was barely shown in videos, instead putting the focus on the skinnier Nancy. It was extremely unfair treatment.
@natalieburnham33002 жыл бұрын
@@robdaviesprogm yea it was pure bs shes a beautiful women, no matter what she weighed. Her weight has nothing to do with her vocals. Which were and are incredible.

Critics were horrible to her. They'd tour and the crowds would give Ann standing ovations. But all the critics would write about was her weight. Ann said it drove her to have stage fright. She was getting to hate singer in front of other people. Ann's great strength has always been singing live. She started hating it. It was sad what the critics did to her. She always had the voice. Thin or heavy. She always she her 'Heart' out:)

So gawdamned thrilled you reacted to this song AND video (though blurred) later in your reaction career, rather than earlier. Your last year or so have transformed you from a mere reactionist to quite literally embracing the music, learning the cultural icons (sorry, I hate modern music; so much of it sounds the same, so I'm perhaps a hypocrite from that comment?) but we get genuine facial "tells" from you when you dissect a song. Sometimes the face and eyes convey what isn't said, and you do well in that area like an old black and white Hollywood silver screen player.

There's also NOBODY HOME - only an LP track (featured on the 1985 album, HEART), but very underrated... Obviously, the big hits, such as, 'These Dreams', 'What About Love' and 'Never', get all the attention, but I think it's fair to say, 'Nobody Home', is pretty much a hidden gem (at least, from the many 'casual fans', who don't own the album). In short, it's mellow and melodic, and (of course), Ann Wilson sounds great singing it.

And three days before that we went to the courthouse on my lunch break to sign the papers. It’s a hilarious story my husband has reached out to you about being on the podcast but we both agreed no kids we have eight nephews and two nieces and very happy almost 40 year olds that has two dogs no kids and coming up on eight years together sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida and guess the point of this comment was both of us were always very upfront about our one night stands and he was fascinated that women do this also.
