I absolutely adore Blackmore's Night. I always liked Deep Purple but when I found BM about 12 years ago i was immediately HOOKED. Candice's voice is just gorgeous and I love their whole renaissance-inspired vibe. Please please do more of them.... their original (to this band) stuff is amazing (and their occasional covers aren't half bad either). So many fabulous songs to choose from, like: Ghost of a Rose, Under a Violet Moon, March the Heroes Home, Cartouche, Highland, Hanging Tree, Olde Mill Inn, Dandelion Wine, Fires at Midnight, Village on the Sand, etc, etc.

Ritchie Blackmore was the main man in both Deep Purple and Blackmore's Night. He is the composer of this song. Singer Candice Night is Ritchie's wife and They started to his band twenty years ago. Obviously Ritchie isca noted virtuoso of both acoustic and electric guitar. Anyway if you would like to do a further react to their stuff, I'd suggest "Street of Dreams" done as a duet with Ritchie's old friend, Joe Lynn Turner.

MORE please!!!... I was always a huge Deep Purple fan, then instantly fell in LOVE with Blackmore’s Night since I first heard them in 2004! Ritchie is forever the guitar god, and his wife Candice’s heavenly voice just melts your soul...❤️ Thank you sweet India for playing this cover!.. Now you really need to explore their amazing original works! Their music is mostly 1600’s Renaissance/gypsy/minstrel themed, often with a rock-n-roll overlay..we BN lovers call it Rock-n-Ren. Amazing blend of sound! I highly suggest you react to any or all(😂) of the following (studio tracks preferred to live for most of these): Dancer and the Moon, Cartouche, Windmills, Hanging Tree, Under a Violet Moon, Play Minstrel Play(with guest flute solo by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull), The Circle, Journeyman, Fires at Midnight, Darkness, The Last Leaf..and for an instrumental that really shows off Ritchie’s acoustic skill, there’s Possum’s Last Dance... Oh my stars, there are just SO many! Take your pick, you will not be disappointed.🤗

I think the difference between both versions of the song can be explained in a very simple way. When David Coverdale sings the song, he's telling his tale. It seems about sacrificing love for music and touring. When Candace sings the song, it's like she's singing legendary folklore written in a fairytale of the past. It's like matching a songwriter versus a bard. Neither is bad, they're just differently seen by the person telling the tale. I can't say I prefer one over the other as I like both singers and both styles of music they choose to tell their story through. She actually reminds me a bit of a young Joan Baez (which is why I was stunned reading here that she covered Diamonds and Rust). I love both the Joan (original) version of Diamonds and Rust and Judas Priest's cover of it so I have no doubt I'll love Candace's version.

Blackmore. In ages past he was part of the pre-Beatles scene, in bands like The Outlaws (not that one), produced by legendary British maverick Joe Meek. Deep Purple was his apotheosis and thereafter he's become the go-to sound for people wanting tone and classical pretension and the kind of grumpiness that will occasionally not admit of such things as encores.

Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple, with wife Candice Night. This song always reminded me of how lonely it could be for a touring musician.

After leaving Deep Purple for the second time, Ritchie Blackmore took entirely different direction towards folk renaissance era inspired, mainly acoustic music. I have seen them live and they have encouraged people to dress in 15th / 16th century style giving them front row places in concerts.

Blackmores night is more of a renesiense band, where Ritchie can explore old instruments. one of my favorites is locked in a crystal ball. I am not sure but ritchie may also have a hurdy gurdy that he may play on some songs.

I thought the original David had so much more feeling. Less piddly notes and so much clearer which defined the song. David coverdale brought so much more feeling. You could see it in his face to. She didn't look or sound like she felt and meant it.

I'll have to agree with you that the Purple's version is somewhat more effective, but then again, they are one of my top five bands of all time.

I agree with your assessment, but this is partly what happens to rock musicians as they grow older. They tend to get more into nuance. And this is a dazzling display of his dexterity, which in his 1970s heyday was hidden behind showboating.
