RTV is factory. Check around the rim of the oil pan. There is a location where it is easy to break the seal with a large screw driver. Mine is a 2001 ML320. It is a major chore getting the pan off, but it can be done without damaging it.

the pans are almost always, every make, cast with pry points to pop them off. need to be careful, but they have a place to insert screwdriver to break free. They are glued on from the factory, most are nowadays.

Yeah my 2004 prius had to be 5 lb. hammered with flat head all around, & then pry off. That's after unbolting the torx bolts! There was glue on it too!

Lower oil pan is a piece of cake compared to the upper oil pan on the W210 M112 V6. Front cradle/ subframe needs lowering to allow upper pan to clear ( Upper pan is usually the culprit when rear main seal is suspected) Only with the upper pan off one can see if the if the RMS is actually leaking ( Look for rusty looking or shiny/oily flex plate to confirm ) Sealant should allowed to set overnight for best results

Yeah sucks...my 2008 c300 mercedes doesn't have the drain plug on the black oil pan, but instead is on bottom of engine block & I cracked it. Need find how remove it...then propane torch & aluminum brazing rod melt into cracks & cool solidify fix.

I just did this on my C240 (W203) without much problem. What you removed was Mercedes sealant, not standard RTV. It is approved sealant by Mercedes, if you get OEM brand, and not impossible to get off at all, but definitely airtight. You remove oil pan either by a special screw hole at end of cover that forces them apart, or else by heating with air gun, and the cover pulls off with a little prying. Not a big problem. Without heat its difficult. Finally, standard practice to reseal with Mercedes sealant, not gasket. Otherwise eventually it may leak. On the other hand a C240 is a bear to access the lower pan, not like yours. I had to unmount sway bar and engine mounts, and lift up the engine several inches.

Probably helps to do it while the engine is warm. And yeah, the ML350 doesn't use a gasket at all - surprised he got one.

The oil pan should be drained with the filter housing open …. So the oil in the built in cooler is not held in by the suction …. all pans in recent yrs use rtv from the factory …. I did not see the engine raised …. RWD???

did you re use the factory aluminum bolts i cant find the measurements for these torx bolts or anywhere online where it mentions they are designed for the m112 engine oil pan

Probably torx bolts/heads...special tools for European cars/screws/bolts.

I'll bet those engines are made to be suspended and then drop the subframe to get the pan out perhaps, which shows me that I think I'll pass on doing it in my driveway, lol.
