3k or 4K is when you should change your oil. I never have had any major issues. Change your transmission fluid every 40k as well. My vehicles are still running strong.

I don't care what anyone says. I don't care what the dealers or manufacturers say. You all do you. Before synthetic oils became mainstream or the norm I was a conventional user and did 3-5k miles. Now since I have seen with my own eyes and with my own experiences how much better synthetic oils are I so 5k. Never had an issue. Had a 100k mi engine and the oil pan was clean, no varnish, no carbon buildup, no sludge etc. So seeing that sold me for life on synthetic oils.

Is it just me, do many of you Americans change your oil at about 5,000 miles? Here in Europe, vehicle manufacturers' recommendations for newer cars are between 9,000 miles to 19,000 miles or one year. Although many mechanics advise against changing at 19,000 miles. Considering that we Europeans in smaller countries probably drive fewer miles per year than you, you Americans could easily extend the mileage between oil changes.

Rather 60,000 km/40,000 mi with the cheapest, mineral 15W-40 from the hardware store. Probably even from different bottles that were standing there for 15 years.

With oils like ams oil and royal purple, you can go at least 10k, sure there expensive but they also are a much higher quality oil , maybe of your using conventional oil still but all new cars uses synthetic oil of some kind, people don't listen to mechanics who say this, they want to charge you more money.

Surely with modern synthetic oils and modern filters this shouldn’t happen after 5K or even 10K!

A coworker and I wrestled an oil filter off for over 20 minutes today and the gasket was dry asf. The customer went a couple thousand miles after the preferred change interval and he had less than a quart in the pan and that was really just the Top Treat I ran prior to servicing. Love the early 2000s Camrys, hate the oil burning and lax owners.

I would say this car was driven short distance, the oil was never warmed up & the owner never checked the oil level!

If you use conventional 5k for sure, maybe even 4k. But if you’re using a good full synthetic like Pennzoil platinum, there is no harm in 6-7k. My seltos is manufacturer recommended to have 8k oil changes, but I do them at 6k with good oil.

I change my every 4K miles with Valvoline high mileage Synthetic oil since my car is over 200K miles the engine needs good Lubrication to keep it up .

Change it 3k. If you want your engine to run forever stick with the old fashion way. Don’t do the 10k for sure EVEN if the manufacturer labels it. Do 3k maybe 5k if pushing.

I do 7k mile oil changes with Mobil-1 full synthetic on my 08 grand prix with 155k miles on it. The 3800 engine will take much worse than that though, you can do 15k on conventional oil and not hurt it. It's like an indestructible engine, you can drive them to 600k miles no problem

Oh My lord sludge is built up into the engine. can cause the engine seize up. you'll not have oil change regularly.

I tested how long my second car would go until the oil got clogged, and it started clogging the oil drain at about 45k. Felt bad, changed the oil and filter and it still drives. My first car, the Volvo 240. Just can't sell it. The thing is, I've never had any major failures in that car. Nothing besides changing breaks and air filter. My 2018 BMW has already cost me well over $15K since owning it since 2019 (German Cars!!!) I would actually have the Volvo 240 as my daily if it had ABS and Cold AC (And more space for dog and kids)

Use Amsoil... specially the new high mileage blend, you can change every 12k miles or once a year.

Best to do an oil analysis every couple of oil changes as that will show whether you need to change quicker or have more headroom and also give you an insight of what is going on in the engine...

5,000 or 10,000 miles. At 20 k or over it can lead to a engine replacement for $4,000-$6,000

i have some costumers that seriously do regular oil changes ( between 6-8k) some do under 5k per year and the oil comes out nasty af. Some do 10k or more but in a 6 month period and the oil is still light brown. Those that do less than than 5k per year also do rly short trips every day without getting the engine to fully warm up. It's the worse! fuel is bad, short trips make even worse emissions/bad combustion due to low engine operating temp and because the engine runs always cold humidity is all over the engine's internals and when oil runs through it collects all that moisture and if the engine in that short period wont warm up the oil sustains all that moisture and becomes that nasty sludge that sticks everywhere inside the engine (especially on cold areas)

Amsoil full synthetic every 5-6k. I know its overkill but my car has 200k and crank and sounds just like day 1. Same gas milage and power too! Opened up the valve cover and zero tarnish!

I change my oil and filter every 3,000. Nobody ever harmed a car by changing the oil too often. Oil is dirt cheap compared to engine repairs.

3k even at 5 you are going to get sludge buildup overtime. Most people drive in ,"severe" environments , long idle times , stop and go traffic, short trips yatta yatta , change it early and frequent it's cheap insurance

my diesel car here in germany gets an oil change after every 10.000km which is around 6200 miles and i am not alone with that

It really depends on your vehicle and type of oil used. Don't always trust your manufacturers oil change interval either. For example, one of the vehicles in particular is a mercedes r320. Manufacturer says every 10k miles. In reality, it should be every 5k miles.

It’s subjective to what engine you’re running. Sure you can run your oil 10,15,20k if you want and it still not be sludged. The main problem is the breakdown that happens to the oil in DFI engines from gas mixing in on top of any condensation buildup in the pan. Oil can look fine but be performing poorly.

Not 5K - closer to 3K IF your driving is mainly highway miles. If you only drive around town and your vehicle rarely gets up to operating temperature or you never or rarely take it on the highway for 30 minute plus drives - you need to change out once a month or 1000 miles. Pull that stick - if it's black you are waiting too long. If it stinks you are waiting too long. When you first change the oil it should be clear. You want to change it when it change it when it gets to lightly tinted or less. An oil change is cheaper than a new engine. The most exoil change is the one that you don't do.

That sludge is well well well over 5000 miles , do you use some low qauilty oil in the USA or something in the UK its pretty standard to change tbe oil after 1 year or 10,000 miles which ever comes first.

I just did the manufacturer recommended 7500 mile oil change. I use Mobil 1 20k oil and filter. The oil came out nearly as clean as the day I put it in. We aren’t living in the 1980s any more

On my previous car, a 2014 Camry, I went 12,000 miles before doing an oil change. On my current car, a 2013 G37, I change my oil every 5k. High quality oil can give you extended intervals, but filters don't get everything. 5k is SAFE!

I did 2 oil changes in only 200miles, no joke 😂 new engine- new break in oil, but car war runnig extremeley rich-11-12.5:1 closed loop then bellow 10 in closed loop; and the oil got contaminated with soot so I had to change jt. foud the problem (exhaust leak from air injection reaction system and then I completed the break in (200 miles instead of 500 because I did enough WOT pulls) and just changed the oil again.

I like to change my oil regularly in the summer, remember your engine still running and burning even you are stalled and people don't take that into account. I live in Texas and during summer temps. climb into the insane specially inside a motor. Change it in June than September. Even if you haven't reach 5k miles.

I know most car manufacturers recommend 10k now but I can't bring myself to do that. Cars now days the cars are so sensitive, Ive seen cars go a couple hundred over their oil change and the top end chatter sounds like an old Chevy motor but doesn't run as good nearly as long sounding like that. Absolutely blows my mind now
