There was A LOT oil on the aperture blades in this Mamiya-Sekor-C 1:2.8 f=45mm, but it's not that hard to fix. Just REMEMBER to set small mark's, so the aperture is correct again when you assemble the lens again.
I use Isopropylalcohol 99% to clean the aperture system.

Thank you so much for creating these videos, a real lifesaver. Small tip for those who struggel with putting back the small steel ball: Use a good amount of grease on it, this prevents the ball from flying off too far. I then held the ball down using a small piece of film and put the aperture ring over the small piece of film. Once everyhting is seated, just pull out the film

Thank you so much for your detailed video about this lens. It saved my life today whilst trying to get rid of some fungus behind the second lens. When I opend the front element, only the front lens came off, the other part stayed in. So I tried to open that one but it did'nt seem to move. Then I loosend those 3 screws around the bottom of the second element. Little did I know what pandora box I opened here ;-).... Fungus removal was the easiest part of it all. To make it short, at the end I had the whole lens apart, trying to figure out how the focussing system works because those 3 screws loosened the focussing system. But: because of your brilliant video I was able to put it all back together again and now I have an exellent Mamiya 45mm 2.8 with clear glass, outside top and focus adjusted. Without your video, I would have propably given up on it. It cost me only 100 Euro because of the fungus. Thankx again + Greetings from Germany !!!

@mikeno62 This is very helpful. Any chance for a guide on regreasing the focusing mechanism on this lens? I could not figure out how to get that part apart after cleaning the aperture blades.

I like your rubber tool technique it creates a 360 degree pressure point on the lens thread which is very good too look after the thread over time

Yes that's true, the rubber tool make's a much better contact to the name plate or retaining ring's, and there are no mark's on name plates

Great video as usual. My only question is how to go about regreasing the focus ring the correct way? Mine is very stiff since a ton of oil ended up in the aperture blades, so I'd like to stick some PTFE grease inside the rings.
@thomebau895
@thomebau895 3 жыл бұрын
I do this by focusing it out as much as possible, and regreasing it from the back without taking the helicoid apart (which is a huge pain in the back to get back together).

I need your help with my 35mm Nippon Kogaku Nikkor lens. The aperture ring is too big for any mount. Someone suggested sanding it down to have it fit. I added a Nikon to EF adapter ring to it, but it has caused my focus to become very tight. How could I loosen the focus ring on this lens?

Hello. I have the exact same issue with the same lens. Is it neccessary to take appart the front elements to access the apperature blades or is going in from the back sufficient?

Well, it's not easy to find spare parts for thoose old lenses, but you can maybe find a steele ball from another wornout lens from the fleemarket, or you could buy them on eBay, just like thoose in different size: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-Loose-Ball-Bearings-Grade-100-1mm-2mm-3mm-4mm-5mm-6mm-7mm-8mm-9mm-10mm-Pack/112243336339?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20160323102634%26meid%3D1ac5e5d8fb034b51812bd173c41e594d%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D271125764129%26itm%3D112243336339&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

36:32 Now a question for you. So once you bring back that aperture mechanism out of the tequila and back into the core lens, and in short due time, is the lens owner going to have to deal with hard stiff focusing mechanism or if oiled again, won't oil find its way back to blades? BTW do you a good remedy for the hard to focus lens with stiff focusing ring (A very common problem with Russian lenses)? I've been told a little beat of "Gun Oil" is the right way to go. What do you have to say?
@thomebau895
@thomebau895 3 жыл бұрын
Throwing the aperture mechanism in the degreasing solution does have nothing to do with the focusing mechanism. Also he degreases the inside of the barrel, not the helicoid as well. The aperture mechanism is not greased or oiled at all. And works without lubrication just fine, as it is designer for this.
@samsen3965
@samsen3965 3 жыл бұрын
@@thomebau895 Thanks. OK and got it for aperture. But for stiff focusing lens (A totally different scenario) do you suggest greasing the helicoid? If so from surface or or from inside and what is the best solution for the solution? Personally, I have seen the real "Grease" inside the Russian lenses but not sure if gun oil or something thinner with less residue to be a better material.
@thomebau895

I would recommend taking off the lens outer front barrel. You need to remove the three screws that hold it in place and you can much more easily manipulate the inside of the lens for disassembly, cleaning and assembly as well. But you need to be careful to loosen the right screws, since the other three screws are adjusting the focusing mechnism. But that is obvious if you take a good look at the screws from the top before loosening any of them.

I can't understand why people like you say things like "f=45mm". Do you know what f stands for?
@leonardozaine
@leonardozaine 11 ай бұрын
because that's what it says on the lens? the f stands for focal length (to be fair, I have no clue why the lads at mamiya decided to do something so confusing and goofy)
