If you have smoke coming into your house or your room when you run your stove or fireplace, there might be several factors to take into account. This video goes over a few scenarios to look out for, including the seal around the door. Draft/draught and negative pressure are explained to be able to better understand your system.

Howdy, Mr. Phil. Greetings from Ireland. Last year, I transitioned from a wood stove to an oil (kerosene here) stove. I am so pleased I did make the change. The running costs are less, for far more heat output and no cleanup. The oil stove (Franco-Belge) gives almost instant heat to the place, and I bought it second-hand online for little money. Your videos on oil stoves gave me the confidence to make the change (scary) and everything you said in your videos was absolutely perfectly spot on, on point, and correct. Thank you so, so, very much for making and sharing.

Thanks for this video. Very comprehensive. I've looked at some of your others as well. I have an old Siegler Kerosene burning stove in a workshop that only seems to run well at lower settings. If I crank it up it generally isn't long before things get sooty. I clean the stove out fairly often (due to this) but it doesn't seem to make too much of a difference. At a low setting the flame has more of the blue color to it though it does still fluctuate (flare) quite a bit - perhaps due to air? The damper seems good but I'm not an expert on setting these. The gasket around the door is a bit worn out - is it likely that is the problem? I don't see smoke or smell it unless the stove soots up. Sorry for the long-winded, self-interested post!

Is your stove perfectly level with all the chamber holes cleared out? This can be cleaned with a wire brush nicely

One last factor would be atmospheric barometric pressure, that may cause issues. People may notice higher difficulties lighting the stove during inclement weather/low pressure. A couple of ways to address this situation are the use of a forced draft blower or electric flue heater during start up.

Hi I have a oil burning stove. Never had this problem, but lately it smells. Gasket are good. Could a dirty flut explain it? I vought the housr 5 years ago. I use the stove one month a year. Never cleaned the flut. What could it be?

Yes it could be, make sure the system is clean. Do you use a fire starter? Sometimes these can give off a smell.

Can you burn wood in oil stove
@philg
@philg 3 жыл бұрын
Because the bottom of the burning pan needs to be clean an clear of any debris, I wouldn’t recommend it. If you plan on cleaning it thoroughly to go back to oil fed, then you could do it, or if you want to make it a wood burning exclusively, it would work.

Hey, thanks for all the videos. Lots of help. Curious about this though, if you were to convert it into a wood burning stove strictly how would you go about it? Would you have to disconnect and cap the oil lines from it? And would you have to change the chimney? Also- would you recommend putting some sort of steel plate down? Thanks
