In October 2023, OIST hosted a special public lecture, "Denisovans and Neanderthals - How They Live On In Us" by Prof. Svante Pääbo, 2022 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, in the Tedako Public Hall, Urasoe .
The direct ancestors of all present-day humans originated in Africa and spread out from there and the Near East 60,000 to 70,000 years ago. When they did so, they encountered the Neanderthals in western Eurasia and the Denisovans in eastern Eurasia, earlier forms of humans who became extinct about 40,000 years ago. Dr. Svante Pääbo’s group has identified genome sequences from Neanderthals and Denisovans. Dr. Pääbo discusses how genetic variants inherited from Neanderthals and Denisovans influence our physiology and propensity for disease today. He also discusses what the genomes of our extinct evolutionary relatives tell us about the origin and history of modern humans.

Saw my grandson watching a two minute video of a young woman modelling lingerie. It had over two million views and forty thousand comments. Compare to something meaningful like this with less than two thousand views and ten comments and it boggles the mind. I know "de-evolving" isn’t a thing, but…

Biology 101, this is not surprising, that science is not promoted more to teens, after their hormonal spike, is the real problem !

bonobos and humans procreate face to face. Twerking is chimpanzee de-evolution - hence twerking goes viral.

I would argue that the Neanderthal Gene that causes preterm births does so by preventing miscarriages and allows the fetus to be carried to a point that is viable but is born pre

Sent that before I was done. Therefore its effects are entirely beneficial and is not an example of a gene having two different effects one negative and the other positive

My dear Slavic brother! The answer: it depends. According to the Bible this was like 6k years ago 😂 According to Science our Y-chromosome Adam lived around 250k years ago and Eve around 150k years ago. It looks like Eve was a little bit late for the date. 😅 (Note: according to science means according to my understanding of science - so take my word with a pinch of salt) All the best!

@@danielm81 ………and the correct answer is : 70000/25=2.800 generations. Could be. 🍀🗽🕊⛲️
