I heard at some point, the VA for Okabe actually got so into character, he broke down crying in the booth and they ended up using that take, which scene was it again? This one?

After a little research, it looks like the scene that you're thinking of is from ep 14. Going back and skimming it, my god, Tatum legit sounds like he's crying. Amazing performance

Wait till you see Steins Gate zero, or even better, play the visual novel. I would recommend the visual novel for zero because the anime has changed a little the story so it will have some plot holes, though the anime is still great if you ignore the plot holes and it has some unforgettable scenes. So, maybe play the game and then watch the anime?
