the fact that you meet ninetails the same way you do with the other brush gods, and where you fight in the world where you meet those gods, just shows how powerful the fox became.

The tsuki-kitsune, or ghost fox, either possesses a woman's body or creates a body of it's own. The fox is neither described as a man nor woman, but it's usual victims are, in fact, women. Amaterasu, according to legend, brought down Orochi with her to engage in combat. But Kamiki Village was nearby, and Orochi, every 100 years, terrorized the village and threatened to wipe them off the face of Nippon. After he was defeated, his body was split into 4 beings, Ninetails was one of them.

The sword on Kyuubi's mouth, it's a Seven Branched Sword, used for ceremonial purposes, it originated in Korea but was implemented into Japanese culture as well.

I love Ninetails as one of the primarily antagonists. He's just so evil and so cool, I mean look at him, he's a false god, he's got an awsome mask, a sword, and nine brush-like tails that paint with red ink/or maybe blood? I mean, he beats the hell out of a lot of nowdays videogame antagonists.

this part of the game is my favorite it's so Epic, From the moment when you meet Rao and all the way to the fight with Nine tails.

This is TRULY the most intense song for an Okami boss! It's really amazing!

I remember hearing somewhere that a Ninetails, once having reached nine tails, is supposed to get more powerful as they LOSE their tails, eventually hitting one and becoming a Kyuubi. Instead, what we get is a sad, pathetic fox demon that just doesn't know when it's beat.

This game is underrated. Smh. It has great plot, background music and oh what a view!

In Japanese lore, foxes, which are known as kitsune, can transform into either male or female humans regardless of the actual gender of the fox. And on a side note, the number of tales represents age, wisdom and power for foxes and the maximum number a fox can have is nine.

This game is just PERFECT! *.* Ninetails ( Kyubi in France :p ) Yami, Kushinada, Susano, Oki, Shiranui, Issun....... and mainly Amaterasu : they are all great characters. Music are beautifull....... This game is perfect, I love Okami ! :D

Ninetails has elements in his design that hint at his true nature. Notice how all but one of his tails has a kitsune mask? The masked ones are actually the foxes in the fox rods. His real tail is the centermost one with beads on it.

I’ve played this game at least a hundred times and whenever I hear this particular theme..I still get very excited. My forgetful self tends to do a happy dance while kicking ass.

Maybe Ninetails was a spirit. In some Japanese folklore stories kitsune were fox spirits; some were beneficial to people and to nature, but most kitsune were mischievous. Ninetails could be based off from Tamamo no Mae' because both kitsune were just pure evil shape shifters. Thanks for uploading this track btw,

I thought the constellation was just another brush god. Then I saw the silhouette of the "god" itself, and I knew what I was in for.

I have the artbook and Ninetail's bestiary entry said that he was a boy, but i call Ninetails an it.

I remember on my Blind-play: It was just about to be Midnight and i thought: only giving the Dragonpearl to Otohime, then i go to bed. And then the Vision appeared in the Pearl. Proceded to play until 2 am because no fckn i pause now were the Storys Momentum and Emotional impact is so high.

1 year later, nope still not there

never got to play the game too much but was excited by the tittle (usually Okami refered to "Inari Okami" also refered to as "Oinari" was a Kitsune/Fox god of rice, craftmanship, etc... but found out it was a wolf instead which confused me, but still looks like a good game, hopefully I can try it out soon lmao, least 9 tails was based on Tamamonomae, and has a really sick theme apparently =3. And to be honest Inari I believe had 1000 tails , as it was the "mother" of their creation. There are also hints and other myths that claim Tamamonomae had 1000 tails from consuming the souls of emperors as well. Though those tend to be fairly hard to find even on the internet = /

Ninetails has no gender. It's a collab of different souls trapped in the tails, both men and women alike. As for the original eyeless fox, we will probably never know. I'd have to say male due to the large size, but that's just me.
