Tangential, but I did have a cat once, that was only affectionate when you pet it first. (Have, as in a stray cat I interacted with regularly) Otherwise, it'd just sit there looking surly. Though, the full body rash might've contributed to that. Which it eventually recovered from.

I've always been a little bit of a cold and distant kind of guy, but I remember years ago I had a friend who used to always clamp to my arm, there was this one and only time when I tried doing the same and she actually took her arm away and acted weird about it, she told me it wasn't right for the man to do that and that it was different when it was the girl doing it... Needless to say I never let her grab my arm again after that. That was like 10 years ago and I still think about that moment, it left such a negative impression on me. Never again. No confidence.
