when you're scrapping modern washing machines, don't forget to look in the Piggy bank at the bottom of the drum. During washing, dimes and pennies will slip past the washplate and fall into the drain holes of the drum. you have to take the drum out and turn it upside down and bang on the bottom. I've found nearly $4 in dimes and 20 pennies in a single drum once. Nickels won't make it into the drum since they're too wide to slip past the washplate. they usually get stuck and then roll around forever wearing the front and back of the coin.

Nice, I am working on some washers and dryers. As well HVAC units. I am breaking them down to be able to load everything in my truck. I don't have a large trailer, so this way I can maximize the amount that I can get into my truck. Stay safe my friend and I will see you on the next video.

it can be a lot of extra work to break them down but it saves gas. I used to have 2 appliance store that I picked up from, I would break every thing down, I had a 1999 1/2-ton chevy short wide bed with a ladder rack, I could put 2 refrigerators up over the cab, then fill the rest of the truck. drive to work with the load and hit the scrap yard before heading home after work, I would get just over 2000 lbs. of scrap on the truck

@@Okiescrapper I have a RAM truck with a 6 ft bed and that is it. Space is limited, so the more I can break down gets more on my truck. I really need to get me a old boat trailer and convert it to haul on. Stay safe my friend and see you on the next video

Mid 82 they switched the pennies. You can weigh them. Copper ones are 3 grams, zinc 2.7g
@Okiescrapper
@Okiescrapper 3 ай бұрын
yeah that is what everyone is saying. I think it would be a pain to try to cash a bunch of them in for the copper value, if they had to check every coin

Hello sir! I'm a subscriber/scrapper, and long time watcher of your channel. I consider you a knowlegable man. But I'm also a coin collector of 60 years. And I must correct you on a couple of things that you have made a verbal mistake on today. 1st of all, that is not a Susan B. Anthony dollar. Is a Sacagawea dollar. 2nd, the U. S. Mint changed the make up of the copper penny with zinc in the middle of 1982 not 1983. And it can easily be checked by weight. No need for expensive metal purity guns. All you need is a popsicle stick. Mark the middle of the stick, place the middle on the edge of a table, place a newer cent on the stick on top of table. Then place your 82 cent on the stick off of table. If its heavier than the cent on the table, its copper. If the stick does not tilt, then its the same as the zinc one on the table. Easy-Peasy. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but thought you mite wanna know. Happy Scrapping!

thank you for the info. and that is an interesting way to check the weight on them, I will have to try it out.

you can also use the drop test on a hard surface. a zinc coin will make a thud sound, while the copper one will ping.

They changed the pennies to zinc in 1982 if you weigh them on a scale the zinc ones weigh less than the copper ones, I don't recall what they weigh. Also was that a ring with the change? Keep up the great videos and God bless you and your family.
@Okiescrapper

no I didn't find a ring in this one. I got to thinking about saving all the 82 and older pennies. if you were to take a small bucket of them to the scrap yard would they have to look at all the dates?

Thank you Allen for sharing this excellent video yes as so many people are telling you about the penny so I'm not 😂 but sir you didn't check the motor for aluminum I know it's probably aluminum but I have come across a copper every ounce in a while keep up the great work six stars brother

I was sure that what I read a few years back said they changed in 83 but I googled it and sure enough it says 82, I got to thinking about cashing in several pounds of pennies, would the scrap yard have to look at all the dates or weigh every penny, or better to take them to a coin shop. the motor had aluminum windings. thanks for watching

You make me feel like such an underachiever haha. I don’t ever break down appliances like this, but maybe I should. I just cut the cord, stack em and haul em. Do you have a good idea of how much more dollars and cents you get out of processing it like this? Thanks for all the insight and happy scrapping.
@Okiescrapper
@Okiescrapper 3 ай бұрын
if you are moving a lot of scrap, keep doing it how you are, it will take at least 30 minutes to break one down. and you will get the aluminum piece from the control panel that is worth maybe 10 cents. a little bit of copper wire. and I sell the drum for $5.00 some have said they get $10.00 for the drum. and most won't have any change in them. I drive about 32 miles to the scrap yard so I try to keep the loads as heavy as I can. most loads are 2 to 2 1/2 tons and the trailer is rated for 5 ton so I am not over loading, I have had 8 ton on the trailer one time. short iron.

no 10 mm in it. they need to put a slot in every new dryer for change, that way scrappers would make good money scrapping them

The only welding helmet that is safe to look at the eclipse, is one with a glass darkness rated above 13 and only for a short period. I saw this on a news report over the weekend.
