I was born around here in the late 80’s and I just want to say- I cried really hard at seeing my home come back to life. From this little military brat who will probably not see this place again- thank you so much for taking me on a trip down memory lane. It feels like I’m back in the back of my dads old Honda while we go get shaved ice in the summer. 🥰 I’m so happy

Man, this really took me back. I was stationed at Futenma in 1992/1993 as a Marine - so this footage was shot just a couple years before. It's exactly the way I remember it. I spent my first night on Okinawa in a transit barracks at Camp Foster, and we used to drive up there all the time to hit the Burger King and the PX. That last bit where you drove up the hill back into Futenma almost brought tears to my eyes...I can't even count the number of times I staggered up that hill after a night out with the boys hitting the bars on 58. Of course, we always stopped at MyHouse for some yakisoba on the way back to the barracks. Great memories. Thanks so much for this. Semper fi.

I was a Marine stations at Camp Hanson in 78 living in the old squad bay's. We had a blue sheet that we put between the wall lockers for some privacy. One of the best years of my life was on Okinawa, wish it was the same I would go back for a visit.

Great video, last known recordings of the old barracks before they built the new high rises, I was in Iraq for Desert Storm at the time.

Thanks for the comment. I was with MAG-36 at the time. I went TAD to Desert Storm in early Feb. 91 very shortly after the air war began and joined up with 2d LAI Bn. My memory is still a little vague but I flew back sometime after Easter with a plane load of Marines, I believe it was on a Northwest Airlines flight which made a stop in Okinawa. Met early in the morning after we landed by the CG replete with a band and a big welcome. Hard to believe it's been it's been 28 years ago.

Thanks for posting this! I was stationed on Oki when you recorded this (Feb 1990-Oct 1991), so it's awesome to see video taken during my time there!
I can explain Camp Foster/Camp Buckner. The base used to be US Army Fort Buckner. Army's Ryuku Command (RYCOM) used to be there.

A piece of me will never leave there, if only in my memories. Camp Hanson, 3td MAR DIV 9th ESB 1989-1990. Left out of there on a medivac after 2 Shitbird Jarheads jumped me on Hanson trying to rob me.

Sorry to hear that brother, but I definitely relate to what you said about "a part of me will never leave there." I was at Futenma 1992/1993 - MATCS-18, MACG-18, 1st MAW as a 5953 (ATC Radar Tech). One of the best years of my life. I got up to Hansen a few times while my good buddy was doing NCO school up there....vague memories of a bar in Kin that served some drink that was rumored to have formaldehyde in it. The f*ck was I thinking...? 😜 Semper fi.
