This is the pre-burn final build with modifications video. I talk about the "extra" things I've done to make this an awesome smoker.

Came back to watch again. I got the bandera and it's working great. Will be adding a Lavalock ATC temp controller / stoker. One really good upgrade is to add a charcoal basket. There's a few good DIY vids on YT for no-weld versions you can make for about $20. I weld so I made a really sturdy welded one either way... It is a goid upgrade to have your coals contained. Just place the basket on top of the coal grate it came with. Takes much less fuel to maintain a consistent cook temp.

Center punch

If you use soap in the water the silicone smoothing goes better. Though it seems overkill to need that kind of sealing of the smoker. The push pin thing is an automatic center punch.

These mods are awesome! How long of a charcoal burn can you get? How many hours before you have to change out the fuel? Looking to replace my Broil King Vertical Charcoal Smoker and Masterbuilt Gravity 1050. My MB (now more than a year later) just can't get anywhere near the smoke flavor of my older BK, but I love all of the MB conveniences.

Sorry for the late reply, but I have been a Pit Boss pellet guy now for a few years, and Ill never go back! Lol
@thetangierc2 жыл бұрын
@@DIY_Semi-Pro I replaced my MB 1050 with an Oklahoma Joe Bandera. The MB just could never give me the smoke flavor I was looking for after a year of use and trying various methods. The OKJ isn’t as fancy, but the food is so much better and that’s what it’s all about.

Nice video, thanks. As an avid waterfowler I gotta ask... is that a layout blind in the background?

Clay - Im not sure what a waterfowler is, so maybe not

How is the DigiQ working out for you on the Bandera? BTW... The chimney is supposed to be installed from inside the box instead of on top.
@DIY_Semi-Pro5 жыл бұрын
I just put up another video; check it out and see some new thoughts. And...I never thought about putting the chimney from inside up...maybe I skipped that step lol!!!

@@DIY_Semi-Pro I put those clamps on my fire box too. A must have to insure the seal but man do those things get hot!

Nice video, I just picked up this same smoker. I was wondering if you could add a link to where you purchased the latches for your fire box. Thanks

Just ordered a DigiQ BBQ Temperature Controller, Digital Meat Thermometer, for Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker Adaptor, Pit Viper Fan. I have the same smoker as you do, my question is did you have to order another adaptor for the viper fan or did it come with the one you needed? I have heard that you have to order this other adaptor if you are not using weber product. and if so where did you get it? thanks..
@DIY_Semi-Pro5 жыл бұрын
I did not order another adapter, it came with one that worked for my smoker. I got mine from BBQ guru's site.

Did you even try to cook any food without it? LOL hard to believe all that is necessary. Just throw some food on there and cook it and eat it. I'm sure it will be good

Without what? You need to articulate your thoughts into the right question or I can't properly respond.
@padraicley32652 жыл бұрын
It depend if you are true BBQ enthusiast or a casual cooker. Without sealing the air leaks, temperature is harder to control especially you are controlling the fire manually like a pit master. This unit was not build for high-end usuage, but with the mod, you get much more than the price by rewarding with the best BBQ you can make over any restaurant.

@pernicusPrime Amore It was the BBQ Guru I think you are referring to maybe? Google them and you'll see. I dont have the smoker anymore, bought a Pitboss Deluxe 820...loves it!!!

I'm really curious about the BBQ GURU ... very interested to see how well that will affect temp control. Great vid!

Well, the verdict is still out on the DigiQ DX2. I may have put it in the wrong place as it's blowing air away from the smokebox inlet directly above it. I'm going to make contact with the Mfr. and inquire about moving it before I drill any more holes. The good thing is, I'll make to circle metal plugs drilled out so I can put a bolt through it and "shouldn't" lose any smoke...plus, it's under the smokebox, so don't think anyone but me will know. I do like the DigiQ DX2 for its functionality so far. Easy temperature setup, and the temp display (Pit & Food) are great to have...even though I did the boiling water test on the supplied thermostat dial (which was close by 2 degrees), I notice a difference between the DigiQ up above 225. The DigiQ will read 270 for instance, and the dial temp gauge reads like 300 plus. I had 2 pieces of brisket this past weekend with the DigiQ and another digital device and both temp probes read close to one another. So, I think accuracy is on par for now...I just have to determine the best location for the blower :/

Can you fit a full packer brisket on here
@DIY_Semi-Pro6 жыл бұрын
John Fennell look for my "burn in" video, more comments on there...but to answer, might have to split a 14+ lb
@DIY_Semi-Pro6 жыл бұрын
Depends on how big? I had to split a 17 lb. brisket on two levels
@dontblameme63285 жыл бұрын
Maybe a small 10lb whole packer will fit. But a much larger brisket will fit if you separate the flat from the point.
