The crowd slowly gathers into the 360° stage of Nuits sonores 2021 edition (dubbed as such because it features 4 screens where projections accompany the musical performances). On stage, Oklou settles down in a makeshift campsite, grabs a controller plugged into a small TV and enters the first inputs. In the crowd, Krampf is waiting for the show to start, ready to start up applause and observe the audience’s reactions.
This is the set-up of “Zone W/O People”, an audio visual performance by Oklou & Krampf linking video game, performance and music. Throughout the performance, the French singer controls an avatar who explores a world crafted by Krampf, where each input equates to sound. We sat down with both artists to dive into the inception of this project.
