I grew up on corn and okra since my daddy is from Louisiana. When I got married over 40 years ago I realized my husband does not like okra. But tonight I made your dish for the first time and it is delicious! I'm so glad to have corn and okra back in my life. Thank you!

Heaven help me Aunt Mae Mae, what good memories you are bringing back for me and my family. Where we live, okra is hard to find and and nobody here knows what salt or seasoning is. I look forward to your next recipes and dishes more than anything else I watch on KZfaq. I love to hear you talk as you so remind me of our nanny named Stella and our next door neighbor Annie Mae. Both have gone on to the other side now and I miss them every day. But since finding your channel, Stella and Annie Mae live on. Thank you so much for doing these very helpful and oh so delicious meals. May God in Heaven bless you and your house til the Son comes back and takes us all home. Oh I plum forgot to tell you, I love this dish and haven't had it in years and years.

Hi Ms. Mae Mae! I just finished going along with you making this dish. It really took me back to the 50s and 60s in NC. My mother used to make this for our family. I wasn't one of the daughters that watched her cook; therefore didn't learn to really cook until I retired. I might say; it came out delicious, just like I remember. Thanks for showing people like me how to prepare tasty, down-home meals. May God continue to bless you and your family.

My grandmother and mother called that sucatash. We love it. That's the only time I eat okra. With some rice, and meatloaf. Or fried chicken. Or some catfish. I love watching you, I think of my grandmother and I loved cooking with her. Thank you so much for your kindness, and channel. My mom loves you too. You remind her of her mom.

I love how you have saved bacon grease (dripping) I am 38 and told my daughter how my grandmas always save bacon grease/ strain cooking grease and reused it for added flavor. I’m from New Orleans so flavor is everything. I explain how when I was younger those elder rarely purchased oil as much as we do now; it was saved in A glass jar. We call this dish succotash here in New Orleans it’s commonly like how my mom does with added lima beans and pig tips with sausage over rice 😊

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME ON YOUR CHANNEL! YES I LOVE LOVE LOVE TOMATOES, OKRA, AND CORN. EVEN YUMMIER WITH THE BUTTER BEANS. MY GRANDMAW WOULD MAKE THAT FOR US when we would go to Jackson, Tennessee. She also made the best bisquits! I know everyone says their bisquits are the best. But Grandmaw's were lightly crunchy on all outsides and soft as fresh bread on the inside. Unfortunately no one learned from her how she did it. All I can remember is she always used Martha White Flour. The factory is in Jackson. My Dad worked there when he was very young 12 or 14 yrs old. That was before any child labor laws. Anyway we can't get her plain flour in Sylvania, Ohio anymore. All the grocery stores quit carrying it about 4 yrs ago. She only used Crisco shortening in a 3lb can. ALL FAT BUTTERMILK. which we only have one brand that's a pint for $4. And her salt and only Clabber Girl baking powder. I LOVE TO COOK AND I WATCH KZfaq'S DIFFERENT PEOPLE'S FOOD BECAUSE I HAVE FORGOTTEN A CERTAIN INGREDIENT OR TWO. THIS IS JUST AWESOME TO HAVE AT OUR FINGERTIPS!!!

Hello Sarah Sosa thank you for stopping by my channel. I really enjoyed reading about some of your childhood memories. A lot of the things you shared I am very familiar with it. When we added butter beans to okra, corn and tomatoes we called it succotash and it is delicious! I’m sorry to hear that you can’t find certain items that your grandma used in your area. I still use clabber girl baking powder and I use Barbers whole butter milk. Non of that low fat stuff. Lol. I’ve been told that I make pretty good biscuits. On my channel I do old landmark cooking with a modern day twist. Please check some of my other videos like the fried okra and homemade biscuits out and I hope you find them helpful.
