Erutan has some gorgeous work, you really can't miss with any of her music. She's got a really beautiful and charismatic musicality.

One thing I noticed is when she sings "now your willows fallen, you belong to me" there is the slightest of volume increase and clarity rather breathy in for annunciation. To me it's like it's his anger and demand to control the situation. It's almost starling to me. It's like how she says hunting bow very clear to. She's so purposeful in how every word she portrays. Even after forgetting the song for years random 2 am thought was the flute sounds and her voice more distant whispers. Now I'm obsessed and following her on spotify I'll never forget her again!

Erutan is truly a genius of her craft - not only she sings and composed beautifully, she plays every instrument you can hear. Flute, violins, percussion, ocarinas, and so on. She has a side project called The Menagerie where people in animal masks play folk covers of videogame music - all the animal masked people are her. I'm truly a fan. The Willow Maid really is a cool reminiscence of folk songs telling these wild tales of people navigating the world, sometimes with a touch of the supernatural. A good example of a song like that is The House Carpenter or pretty much any song by Loreena McKennitt, which I believe Erutan has huge inspiration from, from the folk, old-style lyrics to the traditional instruments. You think Willow Maid is dark, try listening to Loreena's "The Bonny Swans"; that thing is probably the most metal thing Ive heard without being played in the genre of metal at all, I kid you not

She still puts out music every so often. Most recent on her Erutan channel was 4 years ago, I believe? She also plays several instruments and has a second channel, the Menagerie, and that one has a few more recent pieces.

It was a hard blow to the world of music. I bet she would have become very famous. Lindsay Sterling famous or maybe even more. But the love for music would probably die for me aswell if I lost the ability to sing. I'm not saying I can sing. Just putting myself in her shoes.

one thing i will say about erutan is that she also had a channel called the menagerie where she posted instrumental songs, with herself playing every single instrument in the compositions from lute to ocarina to mandolin. so its HIGHLY likely that she actually played every instrument in this composition as well as the vocals.

This was the update she gave a few months ago on her official website: "(UPDATE 4/26/23) Hi everyone. So it has now been quite a few years since I have been on the music scene. There was a time (about seven years ago) where my voice began degrading in quality, to the point where I could no longer create the sounds that I could before. Even talking for any length quickly sent me into hoarseness. We went to several doctors in several cities, but the American healthcare system is very expensive and we could only do this so many times. The different diagnoses I was given were possible acid reflux, possible allergies, possible thyroid disorder, and possible autoimmune disorder. I also received many emails from concerned listeners with their own thoughts as to what might cure my condition, vacillating from diet changes and physical/mental exercises to changes in religious and political affiliation. I value my voice enough to have explored many, many avenues from the practical to the bizarre, bought many sorts of pills, changed my diet (and kept them for adequate months) many times, and tossed a few prayers in some interesting directions. As for the clinical route, I was on prescription anti-acid pills and a low acid diet for around two years (not great for other parts of my heath, I will add) and my voice did not return to normal. It is safe to say it is NOT acid reflux as I had previously thought. My thyroid levels showed normal, though it is hard to say what is low or high for a particular individual. Perhaps normal for one person is out of balance for me. But placing that aside, autoimmune issues DO run heavy in my family, and I have many other symptoms of it, from joints that suddenly hurt and swell for no reason, to the morphea that suddenly decided to appear and make a scar on my back, to various other ghostly things that come and go at their leisure. When I sing nowadays, while I did not get my chest voice back, I can do my head voice/classical and it sounds almost okay. But any sort of steady practice, no matter how careful or correct, will bring the inflammation back for a few weeks, just as deciding to take up a good walking regimen will bring a bout of sciatica to my back or swelling to my knees. There is no cure for an autoimmune disorder, only steroids that can suppress your own body’s defense mechanisms for a time, and this is not good long term. It is something that will have to be lived with/ worked around as possible. I am singing occasionally, but definitely not enough to bring my vocal muscles back to where they were. I do plan on making music again, putting voice to all those songs I have written in the meantime. When I start, my voice will not sound as good as it did before, but I am working up my courage for that. (and the rotten tomatoes) My life is more private than it was in the past. I admit I have dealt with a form of PTSD regarding my social media, with it bringing back all the myriad anxieties surrounding the loss of my singing voice, blows to my identity and self worth and the career I might have had. And it was never easy seeing/hearing reminders of how my voice used to be. It still isn't. But I am feeling better from keeping a bit of a distance, and have built a happy, busy life filled with many activities I love. That said, I know I've missed much kindness and good times with many wonderful people, and that is a deep regret of mine, but I've had to listen to what my mind and body were telling me in order to get through this very difficult time. I hope you will forgive me. Hope to see you all soon! - Kate Covington / Erutan" Link: www.erutanmusic.com/drinks

@@KamenArts This is hard to read. I discovered her when she was just starting out on KZfaq, and I never realized what had become of her. To lose your ability to sing when that's so much of who you are must be devastating. Here's hoping she has built a happy life as she said, and she goes on to trust in herself, and the people who love her music, enough to share it with us again. I don't think anyone will expect her to be perfect. We'd just like to hear her music. There's so much more to true music than perfection. It's something that speaks to you from the heart.

Have you reviewed “one winged angel” from Nobuo Uematsu? Supposedly he composed individual sections individually and stitched them together in his final arrangement. I’m not sure if this is true but supposedly this was first time voices can be heard in game music during gameplay. The song comes in 2 versions, one consisting of only an orchestra and another being led by his metal band. You can tell by its clashing parts it was created in a unique or atypical way.

It's sad and kind of unfair for the fans. I was inspired by her work but she just left 5 years ago. It doesn't have to be the voice, she just has to make content. Pro athletes stop age 30, it doesn't mean they give up on creating, teaching and building a base for their type of art/craft & music.

"Unfair to the fans" doesn't seem very accurate...she doesn't owe us anything, but still offered it. She lost her voice and had/has some serious health complications, but still has two music channels, some with updates and instrumental music from 2 years ago, and maintains active updates as of this past year on a webpage regarding where she's at, noting that she does want to be able to return to sharing her music and is trying to build the strength to do so. I don't think that's just leaving, or giving up.
