Redoing some old stuff. Some of these within this might be individualized from the early days of KZfaq (2007-08 range).
But these are some of the earliest videos I shot in between Kanawha Falls, W.Va. and the New River Gorge below the New River Bridge.
One of the things that will be apparent: 1) I didn't use a tripod, didn't know any better in those days, 2) The majority of the trains were pulled by EMD power, that would change as the 1990's rolled along as CSX bought a bunch of GE equipment.
The last train seen is the 1991 Ohio River Excursion that ran from Huntington, W.Va. to Parkersburg, W.Va. pulled by GP40-2's. The video shot on here is near Mt. Alto, W.Va. on then old Rt. 33 towards Letart, W.Va. after it split from Rt. 2.

Nice video! Absolutely love the CSX loaded West Virginia coal trains, the GP30M’s, and of course the ex B&O GP40’s in the video!

Not these days. Track 2 is out of service between Cotton Hill and Sewell, W.Va. It's now used as single track in there. Track 1 across Hawk's Nest Bridge thru Fayette to Sewell is the primary track. Other places, CSX has torn up sidings and removed track due to declining coal traffic, which has affected the old C&O.

Is that Q300 at 1:30? I think it is because of the reefers on the train.

appalachianrails, I don't think Q300 ever ran through this area of W.Va. on the old C&O. Q302 and Q303 are the manifest freights on this line then and now. Hope that helps.

ChessieStorm I spoke with a friend of mine who is a CSX engineer out of Russell. Chessie ran manifests 90, 91, 92, and 93. 92 and 93 are today's Q302 and Q303. 90 and 91 were manifests that ran between Chicago and Richmond, VA that had TOFC and reefers as well. My engineer friend said that they still ran 90 and 91 for a few years up in the CSX era. Sometime later, they diverged them onto the B&O via Sandpatch as Q400 and Q401. Q400 and Q401 still exist today, but they no longer run all the way to Chicago.

Awesome shots! I never got to see old CSX power like this. Did CSX ever lease Santa Fe engines, if so I made a video on my channel of a SBD GP38-2 #543. Go check it out.
