I learned to make that easy fruit cobbler in high school in the 70's. I made it after I got married & was out of sweet milk & used buttermilk instead. You wouldn't believe what a big difference there is in the crust. Buttermilk makes it so much better. I never used regular milk again. Thanks for your channel & a big thank-you for no cussin. The grand kids can watch with me.

I'm a veteran (68W Combat Medic) who has a chronic form of cancer (it's not curable, but as long as I'm on treatment, it stays under control and I can live a relatively normal life). Because of my condition, I was forced to stay in isolation for the entirety of the pandemic until recently, when I finally had my vaccine shots and can now go back to my regular life. That year of isolation was rough, staying positive was hard and many times I fell into depression, but part of what kept me going was your wonderful show. I made a couple of your recipes, which were amazingly delicious, and your gentlemanly, friendly demeanor and your humble gratitude for us veterans and servicemen made me smile every time. I finally have my life back, and I recently met a wonderful lady who's brought a lot of joy to my life, and one of the things that bond us together is that we watch your show together. We're getting all the components to build us a cooking barrel like you use, and plan to cook many of your recipes together. Sir, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for bringing me so much joy and good cheer. God bless you, your family and your doggies, and know that you have a fan and brother in the tiny Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, so your brand of delicious cooking, good cheer and folk wisdom is reaching far and wide. God bless you and God bless America.

Oh my Kent!!! How did you know that was my favorite cobbler? This video brought back memories of my early childhood. I would go out and pick blackberries with my grandma along the sides of dirt roads way down in St. Landry Parrish in SW Louisiana! We picked several gallons and took them back to her house. We washed them well and then she began making a big long pan of cobbler and baked in her house oven of course. Oh she did have some big 10 gallon crocks too she would have berries in to make wine. My grandma was such a wonderful cook and that got passed down to my Mom and her sisters. They have all passed over now but wonderful memories about down home cookin’! My Dad was an excellent cook and my first memories of cast iron outdoors was from him. I pray many of your subscribers will pass this all down to their children too and carry on with this and teach them to love and respect the outdoors! Thank you and Shannon both for bringing us another Good recipe for berries! 😁❤️🇺🇸💙⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Takes me back to scout campouts in the early 60's. Thats exactly how we used our dutch oven for cobblers. One big Dutch oven takes a mere 6 boys to clear out the cobbler. Even any burned pieces on bottom were devoured. Gourmet field cooking!!

Tell me about it! I was in scouts as a boy and got lost with my buddy in the woods at camp. We found another scout masters campsite by the smell of peach cobbler. After they fed us they took us back to our camp. We were in big trouble because they put together a search party for us but at least we had a great story to tell. I've been obsessed with Dutch oven cobblers ever since. Jeez that probably happened 25 years ago 😳

Haha yep. Every camping trip my troop took, we'd have wild game and cobbler night. Best nights of every camp, delicious meals, and we always found room for those cobblers. Sadly my troop died out, and there really aren't any still in the area, because I'd love to get my future kids into it. Might try to start my own troop with my wife when we have kids, keep up some of the old traditions and soul that modern scouting has lost.

Yeah man, my troop always had a wild game and dutch oven cobbler night when we'd go camping. Sadly there aren't really any troops in the area, and scouting has changed a lot for the worst since I've been in, because I'd love to get my future kids into it. Might start a troop with my wife, bring back some old traditions, toss out the tech heavy and constantly indoors stuff they've been pushing... Teach a new generation how to survive outdoors.
@guybowers9094
@guybowers9094 2 жыл бұрын
@@michellewilt4479 I agree with you that the changes have not been good. We did a lot of campouts and outdoor events and the boys loved all of them and I get to see some of them still today and they talk about how much they learned and how much fun they had. I hope you will be successful in getting a troop started good luck and have fun
@michellewilt4479
@michellewilt4479 2 жыл бұрын
@@guybowers9094 Yeah, it's really unfortunate how scouting has changed. I'm glad to hear that there are still troops that do outdoor stuff. Ive watched a lot of the local troops die out when the local area council began strictly enforcing certain new ways that focused on being inside, and I've met fellow eagle scouts who didn't know how to handle a knife or start a fire. My own troop had a more tragic and sad break up, and we've all gone our separate ways with little to no contact between any of us, but if things had happened differently... I think we would have continued, stayed friends, brought our kids together to teach them the way we were taught. Regardless if I get anywhere with a scout troop, I'm going to teach my kids the way I was taught. I just want to teach more kids as well, because so many kids now days don't believe they can survive without their technology. Thank you for the well wishes.

Making cobbler today for the first time since my stepmom passed last year. She taught me to make it the summer i was 14 years old. I picked the wild black berries with my little brother from on my dads 10 acres in eastern Oklahoma. I tricked him and told him the red ones were ripe just to watch his little face twist from the sour taste. My stepmom and i had a hard relationship but making this with her was a really nice memory.

To me that's not old fashioned. We ( granny and great great grandma)always put 2 c sugar in a LG turkey bake pan half full of blackberries and cooked them on wood heater. When juice was thick we would roll out pie dough and add strips to berry . Then put in oven and bake til crust was done. This was the only way we made cobbler.

You might need a smaller Dutch Oven for Cobbler than if you need it to roast a chicken. My 12" is too big for 2 people eating Cobbler.

@@scottwilcox6741, Lodge 🇺🇸 works fine by me. Nice instruction manual with recipes. Get the right assessories. I bought a trivet to keep meat off the bottom. A lid Lifter is handy. Got a small Weber Charcoal chimney starter that is fine.

Thank you for sharing, and bring back fond memories. My mom use to make blackberry cobbler all the time when I was growing up, but she made her in a 9x13 baking dish. But the recipe she used is the same one you shared. thank you. God bless.

I have always loved blackberries. I used to plant blackberries on paths thru my property I didn't want folks using. They usually picked the first patch, but the rest were out of sight and MINE.
