Congratulations on the beautiful work. Imagine if the creator of the work could see your work? He would be very happy to see that there are people who are careful and loving about what they do. I hope you continue this beautiful work. A hug from Minas Gerais- Brazil.

Still a good job but I wouldn't have painted it. Just waxed it letting it's history shine through. The patina was very attractive and would help it sell quicker than bizarre brown!.

1:15 I just started watching but if this is any indication of what lies ahead…😮 I was right. 😢 When restoring furniture you should protect it. Prying with screwdrivers is not the way. Looks like it had lots of worm damage. It probably would’ve been worth it to fix all four feet. It would’ve been nice for you to have kept the original scalloped edge on the feet instead of changing it. Therefore more of a furniture makeover not restoration. I thought the finish before you painted was kind of neat. You could see the many years of color variations. A clear wax finish would’ve been nice to preserve the history.

So much more you could have done to keep the history, and still repair. Keep it up though. Entertaining, and well explained. Just think about the end product a bit more.

That had potential to be great, painting it was a mistake. But you tried that's what counts, better luck next time.

The green paint under the old brown paint you removed had a high chance of having lead in it. You really should have tested for lead and removing of all the old paint. Unfortunately you left alot of the green paint behind. If you were not already aware, lead is poisonous and highly toxic.

From other coments we found out. For the next restoration we will take more precaution. Hopefully people who see the coment section can see this and also take precaution in working with old paint and also with the dust from sanding. In the next restoration we will make sure to put a warning about this.

@kathyw7143

You were too harsh with this piece. Using a lead paint test kit would have helped and stripper to get all of the paint off as well as sanding afterwards. You practically destroyed the hinges. Using glue and clamps instead of so many screws would have been beneficial to the wood. And use of a good wax would have fed that dry wood.
@buildsdw345
@buildsdw345 Жыл бұрын
@@kathyw7143 we are thinking about a paint stripper. Thank you for sharing this with us. It.s really helpfull for all of us and we will keep this in mind for the future restoration job that we will do

Original commenter was not nice. The follow up answer to your question was good. I would have preferred using a wax or clear polyurethane finish to show the distressed age of the piece. It’s also important to clean the hardware as well as the wood. You can clean and protect from rust without making the hardware look shiny/new. Also I have seen wood plug’s being used to join pieces of wood or to cover nail/screw holes!

Not a fan of the reddish Brown paint. I prefered the patina of the old paint when you had stripped it. Just some clear wax would have been nicer so you can see the old wood.

I know it's not the most modern and beautyful one. It was the color we find on that piece (almost the same) so we wanted to preserve that. This kind of color was very popular 40-50 years ago in our country. Lot's of things had this color, from furniture, house hold items, doors, and so on

the flat brown colour was horrible. left me very disappointed. A dark charcoal grey may have better or a stain that still allowed the wood grain to show. After all the good work you put into making the colour for the pained ruined the final result for me.
