wow! in a way it kind of still resembles what it looks like today. It's hard to believe how rapidly hongkong has changed and most people don't know what an exciting modern history hongkong has compared to other cities, and that change really accounts for a lot since so many have come and gone from this city. My grandfather has a tailoring shop in Central, in fact, still does today! Must be overwhelming for him to see the city change drastically, these videos make me understand him more. Thanks!

This is simply amazing! Thank you, Michael, for treasuring these valuable footages of HK in the old days. I am especially impressed by the high picture quality (don't know how you managed to do so). At 0.15, I think the building being constructed is the Mandarin Oriental...

Your excellent historic archive of the old Hong Kong will forever delight those grew up there in the era, especially to countless one who left the great city decades ago. Thank you for your reply. No wonder the resolutions are higher than the regular 8mm during that time period. That explains why they look so good. Your dates in HK back in the 49 proved to be a valuable one. Look at the streets, only a few people walked on by. I had a glimpse of that moment in the early 60s but those peaceful moments will never return. Only through these clippings we can trace back to those golden moments. Thank you for sharing these videos.

It is a great documentary film ! It makes me remember my memory of the old 1960's Hong Kong. In the film, you can see the food caterers carrying the meals over their heads !
@kuenc8344
@kuenc8344 4 жыл бұрын
In those days, many small trading companies in Hong Kong hired caterers to bring lunches to their office so that they could have lunch in their office instead of going out for lunch. Most of those caterers were family-owned business. At 1:53, you can see the man carrying lunch dishes on a tray on top of his head, and his child was helping and carrying more food right behind him. At 2:20, another man also carried a full tray of food. The trading company I used to work for located about 500 feet from where the video was taken. Everyday, the caterer would deliver freshly cooked food to our office. Thanks to Michael for another precious video.

1:46. great shot down Pedder Street from a high floor in Shell House. Tks, I always wanted to see orig. Central Bldg/bldg that used to occupy Landmark. My father had his office in Shell House, '74-'81 but his window faced Ice House Street. Used to hate the elevators in Shell House-they had strange walls with beveled steel ridges that hurt like hell to lean against.
