The 'fountains' shown at 1:50 & 2:10 are still there in Westbourne Avenue & Victoria Avenue and are listed monuments. Once a very 'posh' area of Hull with its own railway station (Botanic Gardens) it has fallen by the wayside as has so many parts of Hull. I won't ever move back tbh which is sad as I love visiting the folks back home.

Would love a caption below each one as a guide to where these were taken. I can guess and recognise a few but it's a guessing game on others

were lucky to see hull from years gone by...i wonder what someone from that era would think if they could see pics of hull now...its gone down the pan...someones not doing there job properly these days..

i love looking at old pictures of hull :D and what people are saying about the chavs and stuff, well to be honest, there are probably more non-chavs than their are chavs. As a teenager myself, i've got to say that not all of us 'kids' are the same. admittedly, some parts of hull are shitholes and bad stuff goes on, but doesn't the same happen in most other cities too? anyway, thanks for uploading the photos :)

4:24 - Which bridge is that? Looks a bit like Scott Street bridge... Now there's something they need to restore instead of wasing money on those damn apartments and that concrete and glass eyesore they are erecting opposite me blocking what little light my North facing house got. Great photos, this city used to look so good, quite industrial really.

I noticed in the credits that it says 'Photographs: Nicholas Cox' - would it be possible to obtain high res copies or prints of the photographs of Botanic Gardens station? I'm guessing that Nicholas Cox must be the copyright holder as no other names are mentioned.

Unlike York, Hull had a habit of knocking its old buildings down rather than renovating them. Having said that, some buildings deserved to be knocked down such as the eyesores on Ferensay before St Stephens.

hi i was a long distance lorry driver and found myself in hull very often delivering to the docks late 50s and on . stopped in the sally army . can you tell me the name of the big fish and chip shop in the town . went there for ower evening meal . then a couple in the earl de gray . had no prob with hull great place and people . im from s/wales .

l was born and bred in north hull,my first house when l got married was down clumber street.it was great untill we had drug dealers move in one side of us and a house full of students at the other..if that wasnt bad enough we had an influx of kurds and eastern europeans take over most of the city with no intention of intergration. our great leaders tell us if we dont like whats going on we must be rascists!.l was lucky enough to get out ..the city l loved with all my heart has been killed.

Good old days indeed,no political correctness/streets nice and clean/where everybody new there place,but I guess they were living in happier times then. Well if today is anything to go by,so much for `progress`.Also notice how everything in the photos shows how everything was built to last and was top quality. We only now have China to thank for most things...Oh well!

I live down Clumber Street and I love it. Fair enough Hull's got its problems and its fair share of ethnic minorities but it certainly hasn't been taken over by them. I'm originally from East London and have lived in Hull for 20 years now, and I tell you what I much prefer living here. Blimey, I'm a shandy drinking southerner but I seem to have more pride in Hull then the Alf Garnetts who have commented here. My suggestion is get a life and stop reading the Daily Mail you bigots.
