Hey everyone!
I've got something different for you today! I need to move some of my old iron around but the trusty excavator is not around. So it off to the next best thing, the ol payloader. But before I can use it, I've got to get it going again, lets just say things do not always go as planned!
Check out our podcast!

Nothing like having to fix something in order to fix something. Dam I love old machines, and tools, but some of the time, it's like banging your head on a wall until it stops hurting. Then other's, everything works as if it was all brand new fresh from the factory. Then you wake up from your nap, realize you just finished your late cold supper. It's 3 AM, you've still got grease covering more of you than what you were working, you've gotta be at work in couple hours, and it's hour half drive away just to get there. That's usually how things work for me, are did before I decided that I had tore up enough of my body, and just stay home tending cows taking it easy before it's time to go. Try a solar panel to keep your batteries hot when they sit dormant for extended periods of time, and the low amps won't cook the acid/water outta them. I found that sometimes, starting them in gear will pop the pressure plates loose too. Of course you need a clear path when you do that, are as you say, might have to go put new door there where there wasn't one before.

I have a Hough loader a Lote like yours. we put a C65 chevy rotter on the rear-end yoke welded a caliper to frame & brakes we had. rotter came from Freight Shaker dealer dumpster (does not have to be new) master cylinder 1950's single line any brand will work. it had a working Emergency band brake but would not stop it on a Missouri Hill. It has a 1985 chevy 250 six & 350 auto tranny someone welded= put Crome cylinder rod where kingpins used to be. I have a ton 4x4 dana 70 I might put under front end and then I could steer it loaded and make it front wheel drive with power steering and power front disk brakes. Oh, my loader has been converter to forks not bucket. will pick-up full-size car from the 70's without motor and stack car on car, just hard to get traction even tire chained up. great video very Inspiring.

Love these old 1950's loading shovels and the evolution of them....Over here in UK companies like Bray and JCB were taking 'tractor' skid units and converting them until eventually they started making their own 'chassis' that were more in line with the ideas they were trying to project. I see your has a Hercules engine, early loaders in UK mostly 99% would have had Perkins diesels.
@Cast_Iron_Curiosities
@Cast_Iron_Curiosities Жыл бұрын
I'll never understand why the diesel for industrial equipment took so long to catch on here in the USA. You brits had the right idea to begin with!
@Pinzpilot101
@Pinzpilot101 Жыл бұрын
@@Cast_Iron_Curiosities I think we were forced to use diesel by circumstance and our diesels evolution was different...We had companies like Perkins, Gardner and Meadows that made great diesels (ran cool and huge economy for the time), but for road vehicles they didn't need 'fast' diesels and all the diesel were big heavy and slow revving. Road speeds for trucks were something like 30 Mph top speed.....a truck that could do 35 Mph was considered a sports car....Plus there was the cost, even way back then our fuels cost a hell of a lot more than yours, not just pennies more, a hell of a lot......So the economy and reliability of Diesel just made more sense for us. It was the same for Farm Tractors, by the early 60's if you wanted a gasoline powered Tractor, you would have to order it specially and pay extra for it. Light vans over 1 ton payload all went diesel, indeed Perkins were enlightened even then and offered diesel conversions for older trucks/ farm tractors, vans and cars.

Sometime later Hough turned it around, ran a driveshaft to the front end and put the drive wheels up front where they could have traction when the bucket was loaded, like a forklift. Dumb!...You're driving around and cutting up the tube in the tire, or tearing the stem off of the tube, when it is easy (and cheap) to PUT AIR IN THE TIRE! (and expensive to buy a tube)... By the way, the machine would be easier to steer with air in the steering axle tires... Just sayin'...
