Good afternoon Brother! It was I who sent you down the OJK rabbit hole with a comment a couple months ago. What a joy it’s been to watch you experience that line & dare I say you found a cellarable new blend! What an amazing community we have & I wish you warm briar, hearty company & fond memories 😉

I think it is pretty rounded compared to many other blends...I believe I could smoke this all day. But my wallet says no. Cheers from Denmark.

The great thing about when you may not be a fan of a blend (and in my experience cigars as well) is that time and rest changes the tobacco, and a persons palate also changes a bit over time as well. It makes the journey with pipes and cigars more exciting because a lot of times the same cigar or pipe tobacco blend experience can be different each time it is visited.

I actually had 2 bowls this morning. First Rattrays Old Gowrie, and then Haunted Bookshop.....I could not taste any difference besides that Old Gowrie was still biting my toungue after sitting for 4 years.

I hated haunted bookshop the first time I had it. But now I love it.. might have to try Old Joe next...

I probably have couple of tins somewhere in the boxes… they must be at least 3 years old, but I’ll let them rot for few more years before cracking them. Enjoy your smokes

Let it feel the air and jar it for a month or so, smooths it out some. Try it fresh too... it is a step down from haunted bookshop
@13pipes10 ай бұрын
@@chillaxe9603 I’ve had it before… few years back and it was quite decent even fresh. Haven’t tried the red, white all the rest though… just the original.

I loved HB and OJK from the first light. My favorite of the OJK line is the red label, but it’s still a step behind HB.

I love Haunted Bookshop and Old Joe Krantz. I have not had the other OJK blends, just the original version. Maybe take a little straight Virginia and/or Burley and mix with OJK original and see how that tastes. You could also try a pinch of Black Cavendish and mix that with OJK original and see how that tastes. I’m always blending stuff. I enjoyed your review of all versions of this blend. I enjoy your videos and I hope you continue your efforts.😎

I love OJK original. I probably reach for it more than any other tobacco. Haven't tried the other Old Joe's yet.
@jimpm470510 ай бұрын
Crusty, curmudgeonly Old Joe a standing geezer in my regular rotation. Great blend made for real men. Old Joe Krantz, remember to respect your elders. History has proven time again they have much to offer. The headiness of his bite will scar you right properly and that to me is a splendid thing! IMO OJK is much stronger than HB, which I also enjoy. Yes, cigar like and robust fullness, you are most correct on that description. It does become less racy with age that is true. If you have not tried it, C&D's Billy Budd renders a similar deeper registration. #1 Burley for me, no question Solani, #2 Wessex yet I do agree with your opinion on the merit of the others.

Interesting blends the last few days. Will have to try out the red when i order some. In the meantime, might give haunted bookshop another try. Smoked once then put it away.

I can’t get enough of OJK! Please put into plain English what “rough edges” means. I’ve heard it many times, but never seen it defined. Thanks!

It'll smooth in a jar, less than a couple months i noticed a difference. I'd be happy enough for it to fill every jar i have but that would be too codgery!

I enjoy watching you reviews while I smoke. I have STRUGGLED to find a blend that I really enjoy (I’m almost a year into pipe smoking) but it’s amazing how my tastes have changed. I got C&D Sunday Picnic early on and did not like it! But I’m trying it again today and actually quite liking it. It’s quite a thing learning to enjoy the pipe but I really enjoy the process so I’ll keep at it for a bit. Keep up the good work Pat the reviews are really helpful to noobs!

Have you gone through my cherry battle videos? Virginia journey and English winter series? I review a ton of blends in them that you might like. Of course I have to give a shameless plug To the codger blends also!
@martang449710 ай бұрын
@@PaladinPiper No I’ll check that out! First tobacco I bought when I really didn’t have a clue was Borkum Riff cherry. I like cherry flavour so I thought it would be great but I didn’t really like it and have read bad reviews since. Thanks for the advice!

Great series! I've only tried the original. For me, the smell in the bag/tin/jar was pretty much dirty socks, but the taste was great. Unfortunately, it knocked me for a loop, and I enjoy several strong blends. This one and Haunted Bookshop really mess me up every time I smoke them. Still, I really appreciate your review of all 4, and I just might buy an ounce of the white to try out. Thank you for the reviews!

I've never tried this, though. I have stared at it thinking of ordering....have you ever tried Bugler, the blue pouch. I think it is a good codger burley. My local family dollar used to sell it, but I haven't seen it there in years.👍🖖💨

I smoked a pipe while talking pipes with Watermelon Slim a couple times at Blues shows while he smoked cigarettes.He said he smoked Bugler in pipes at home and hand rolled when out on the road. He buys Bugler at his neighborhood Indian Smoke Shop. While on tour he played in a show in Turkey and had a pipe carver carve him a Meerasham pipe of himself that he modeled for while watching him. He also talked him into selling him some blanks so he could try his hand at, at home in Mississippi.

It might very well mellow out with some time. Haunted bookshop bulk does smooth out some with half a year in a jar. Ive had a couple samples and a tin of ojk original. It wasn't bad but not my thing. I dont like the throat hit with that one and the vitamin N got to me. Also i dont seem to get on well with some red Virginias. To me, some of them taste like burning electronics and others kinda bother my gut. This one hit me in the gut.
@PaladinPiper10 ай бұрын
Burning rubber is a taste I get sometimes also. Interesting! And yes I believe our guts are similar in that regard lol
@chillaxe960310 ай бұрын
When it's fresh both this and hb will get me with burps and even hiccups! Worth it though....🤣 Jar time fixes this for me but are yous guys getting pains or is it turning your stomachs?!
@timberdrifter822510 ай бұрын
@chillaxe9603 not pain but a sort of feeling of uncomfortable warmth in the gut. Not so different than when I've had too much Indian food and might need to start looking around for a bathroom with some haste 🥵 . Fortunately, the Virginias don't have that same result.

What's going on Pat! I hope you and family are well. I have a jar of this stuff at home, but I'm not sure I'm going to like it. I've struggled with the burleys I've tried. One day I'll crack it open. Haunted book shop is the other one sitting in a jar...one day. Take care.

Pat I enjoyed these reviews you did. Question, where would you put or rate HBS with OJK Red, White, and original. Take care and stay well my friend.
@PaladinPiper10 ай бұрын
HBS was strong to me than all the OJK. More perique than OJK original. Of all of em I think the perique was best done in Red. For what it’s worth….😇
@JMZ5610 ай бұрын
I smoked HBS about three years ago, and didn't really care for it. Then I smoked The red about five months ago, and HBS about month ago. Now I'm going to have to pick up both tins and do a side by side. Thanks for your review.

HB for me was an acquired taste. My very first bowl of it was one of those "oh no what did I do" moments. Then my tastes changed, or something, and HB became a favorite. Same thing happened with a bunch of C&D blends. I believe there is some kind of topping on them all that disagreed with me at first. Just a theory. Anyhow this sounds good, maybe a bit more smooth than HB.
