How amazing it is that you show the chord diagrams!! Makes it so much easier to begin playing through instead of trial and error. Thank you!!

Oh Joe, thank you so so much for this. This is my all time favourite Eric Clapton song, a watershed moment when it first appeared on the Journeyman album marking Clapton's return to sobriety, and with this masterpiece, more than any other song, Clapton announced to us he was back . I love both the Unplugged acoustic and the Live Electric version (Hyde Park). The raw emotion in this song blows me away and even though there are other Old Love lessons about, your rendition truly captures that feeling. Thank you.

Hi Joe. Crystal clear lesson once more. You play it beautifully. I haven’t played acoustic guitar in any meaningful way for 18 months now after I lost my Dog, who loved sitting with me as I practiced outside. I have played guitar of course; my Strat, Tele and a new arrival, my electric Bass. I really enjoyed the different challenge of the Bass. About a year ago I asked Dowina Guitars, Slovakia, to make me an acoustic guitar slightly modified to my spec. I wanted it in memory of my 3 dogs, all now gone. There is an inscription around the rosette dedicated to them and the 12th Fret has their initials. It is beautifully made of Walnut and Cedar and sounds fantastic. It took about a year to complete and was so much cheaper than having a Custom guitar made here. Anyway, I am certain today’s lesson has motivated me to pick up my new guitar and have a crack at this beautiful song. Thanks and all the best.

Very nice song! Let's not forget to credit Robert Cray for co writing this master piece. May I ask you Joe, which string thickness are you using on your Martin? I got .012 -.053 on my recently purchased Taylor 114e, which are the strings Taylor recommends. 'The bad boys' Bb & B bar chords can be a bit of a challenge at times, so I am considering going to .011. I am aware that I need to adjust the truss rod if I do. All the best from Denmark and thanks for the great videos!
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons2 жыл бұрын
I actually use 10’s sometimes 11’s you don’t always need to adjust truss rod especially if you are dropping gauge.
@ljen95522 жыл бұрын
@@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons Thanks a lot for the advice, it will be 11's next time. Can't wait to dig into your 'Old Love' lesson though so will keep struggling for a little while.
@ljen95522 жыл бұрын
And there I went... Switched to 11's. World of difference, much easier now. I'm still testing which picks to use. Perhaps it's in my head but at first listen it sounds like a thicker pick than my usual 0.5, 0.6 creates a better sound. Thanks again Joe for making me comfortable changing strings. And hey, have a fantastic weekend as well!
@RobinDaelman Жыл бұрын
A little lick in the song? ;). That lick is not so little to me and not that easy to play it as well as playing it in tune with the band at the end but the most nice one in his unplugged album for me and not to forget the piano
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons Жыл бұрын
It wasn’t so easy for me once upon a time, but I decided to practice it and make it my business to play it now I can and so can you to if you really want to, but like anything worthwhile these things take time
