As an Englishman, the term 'old Money' is used but it means something slightly different. It's basically The upper classes, in most cases don't have the money they used to have to splash and have to hand down everything, like an old Jag and/or Land Rover from the 1970's that is currently serving the 4th generation of the family and wearing clothes that belonged to grandad like an old Watch, Flatcap, Waxed Jacket, pair of Brogues and Tweed suit from the top end brands Like Rolex, Lock&Co, Crockett&Jones & Huntsman. The only expense needed is the resizing at the tailors & re-soling and a polish by the cobbler. Because these items are classically timeless, they still look good today than they did 50 years ago (After a bit of love).

@@SpamMouse the term Old Money in America means a family that has had money for generations as well. But doesn’t mean they have hand me downs. Means they have been rich and are probably more rich now and powerful now. Glad to know how the term is used across the pond.

For quality versus quantity, I use the cost per wear equation. If you buy something for £100 and wear something once, that one time costs you £100. However, if you wear it 4 times, each wear has cost you £25, and so on the more you wear. Cost per wear is the way to go.

Why a first rate watch, bought right (used), can be such a long term bargain. You wear it DAILY. They last FOREVER. And stainless only gets better, with wear. And there ARE excellent brands other than Rolex, that are less common...

Let's be honest, "old money" is a trend now, everyone and their dad is talking about it to the point of "here we go again," but your advice is at the high level we have come to expect from you. As far as fit goes, having a few custom shirts helps too. I had two made when I got my suit. Plus it's not a ready-to-wear item, so it is next level just by itself. Even T-shirts can be elevated: I have thin arms so I stitched up my T-shirt sleeves a few centimetres so they don't stick out. And as my arms get bigger at the gym I can adjust the new seam.

Awesome channel! I'm a big fan. My 2 cents: something I learned about 40 years ago... find yourself a tailor. Now, things have changed quite a bit in the last 4 decades: fast fashion, off the rack clothing in warehouse settings, etc. For suits, trousers, blazers and sport coats - the way to go is with a tailor. They're still out there. My first tailor is a chap I'll never forget! It was the the early 1980's... an older (he was probably only about 50 then but I was in my 20's) Italian chap. His name was Gino and he had a small shop in Montreal called "Gino Le Tailleur". He was a master! Now, Gents, this is fair dinkum: get yourself tailored clothing! Nothing approaches how wearable this stuff is! Is it more expensive? Yes and no. Yes - the initial outlay of cash is more than a warehouse off the rack but you will wear it perfectly! A good tailor will be worth every penny! Gino's shop was a half step above a hole in the wall but he turned out brilliant, brilliant work! Also - you can get anything you want: any fabric, any cut, any fit... but get a good tailor and trust him. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.... good deal of rambling for only 2 pennies! Wee edit: Antonio is spot on! Learn to adjust/tailor your own shite! I'm a retired Senior Chief and one of the most useful skills I picked up as a young sailor was to sew. I use it rarely these days but once learned it's always in the toolbox.

To expand upon quality over quantity when you are looking to improve your wardrobe, one way I taught myself to do this (and believe you me this lesson was deceptively difficult) was to start shopping at stores like Burlington and TJ Maxx (I'm sorry for not knowing a proper descriptor for those of you outside the US). By going to these stores where literally EVERYTHING is marked way down by 50% or more, I forced myself to expand my wardrobe but to do it with discipline so I do not simply buy every item I COULD even somewhat like or want. Sure, there are over a dozen well made, name brand shirts in here that fit me and are the style I want, but I only NEED one or two of them. Expand this to jackets, coats, pants, t-shirts, undergarments, and now I go shopping with a strict check list any garment must satisfy for it to come home with me. It's why I have been very methodical in expanding my formal wear, because I know everything in these nicer stores will satisfy my needs, but I want to find the particular piece(s) that I will wear over and over again and make staples in my wardrobe rather than mere occupants. It is by no means the easiest way to go about things, gents, but if we want to be our best selves we need to do those things that are necessary and most effective, not just what is easy or simple.

My tip for white shirts, either woven or t-shirt knits, is to prevent underarm and collar staining and prevent dinginess, these can be difficult to remove, so it’s better to prevent them: 1.pre-treat cuff edges, underarms and inside collars first with Shout or Spray and Wash, even when new and clean, let sit overnight or at least a couple of hours; then 2. wash all white separately, even from other light colors like off-white, in the hottest water they can take, with a scoop of BIZ* added to the detergent. If stains are present initially, stop the washer for 30-60 minutes to allow them to soak, after all the detergents are dissolved and the clothes are thoroughly mixed into the soapy water solution. I use only white linens (sheets and towels) so I can always make a full all-white load every two weeks or so (and it simplifies my life!) I have white tops that are 20 years old and still immaculate, none need to be replaced. Chlorine bleaching can actually yellow whites, so I only use that as a last resort to remove stains that I couldn’t remove with my usual treatments. Sometimes 2 or 3 spot treatments and launderings are needed to remove tough stains, try that first, but don’t machine-dry, steam or iron in between attempts - heat sets stains. *No brand affiliation, but I do love BIZ, it’s the best laundry additive/color-safe bleach and stain remover I’ve found.

As always, packed with spot-on advice, Antonio! I did, however, wince a bit at pairing polished lace-up dress shoes with jeans. It just strikes me as "anomalous" or "disharmonious." Boots, especially Western-style, would seem like a much more apt pairing. However, for most of my life, I have shunned jeans, so I may be guilty of bias here.

Quality (read pricey) makes sense when you know what you will like or do next 10 years: or money is no issue (lucky you). Otherwise, better to experiment with and replace and update a cheaper wardrobe.. A teenager becomes a uni student, soon he is a young professional… (ie.) He is not going to wear, like and need the same ‘quality’ that lasts forever.

I am utterly ridiculous. I have 20 sport coats, many are doubles because of tweed versions and different shades of the same color. lol. The idea is you can wear a different coat every day and get the "hey, nice jacket" one day....and then several days later...."bro that's a badass jacket but WTF how many do you own every time I see you you're in a different one!" Is this overkill? It's because, if you have 3 or 4 only, and wear each one daily, you quickly reach a point where people think you're wearing the same thing every day. I want to avoid that.

I enjoy your videos, very much so, but living in the United States -- even though California is not the "typical" US State -- and given that I for professional reasons very often carry thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of Dollars cash on me, I always carry a sub-compact firearm concealed inside my waste band. Consequently, every decision regarding clothing has to take this concealment into consideration. My primary dress code is a loose shirt over blue jeans or trousers, and if I I have to dress up a bit and don't want to wear a jacket in the hot summer months, I wear a dress shirt and a waist coat -- think Raymond Reddington and you get the idea. I know that I'm one of a few millions of men who do the same, and wonder where you are located and why you never seem to address this issue when you talk about how to dress? Do you have body guards or are you not in the slightest concerned about becoming the target of a violent robbery?

Much of this has little to do with old money, belt buckles in particular. “Style” is not a term to apply to old money. Old aristocrats wear the clothing of relatives, even grandparents. Fit be damned. The “Preppy Handbook” spells out the rules, or rather, customs of old money. Jeans do not express old money. This presentation better expresses middle-class values.

So in this video you're saying drive, fly, and shop all over to learn what high quality is. Okay....so there is no value to your time? You spend let's say ten or twenty hours shopping/driving around then you gain knowledge and go to spend time shopping at stores to find a bargains since now you know what quality feels like? Okay so you get that $200 shirt for $20 and you think you saved $180 but at what cost? You spend 20+ hours shopping and learning and let's say another 2 hours for the 50+ miles driving around to save $180???? That works out to $8.18 per hour plus cost of gas you had to spend to "save" $180. Instead maybe just buy at a high priced store and not waste all that time, energy, and fuel?

Reduce the video sizes between 10 to 12 minutes . Your videos are longer recently and honestly it's hard to keep patience these long time . If the topic is longer , divide it into 2 and upload separately .

Depends on the subject, however do not forget unless you are paying for Mr A's time directly some of his income for providing you this FREE information comes from the viewing-hours and ad-spend via advertising, a small price to pay so don't whine about it.
