Born and raised in Detroit, left 10 years ago, I won’t look back on the move but this touches my heart! Every member of my family owned homes and died here. I was born in the 80s so I never got to see this beauty my city held

Every night I park my truck on night shift and admire Detroit. You can still see old power house and architecture. Wish you could have before and after pictures. Architecture should have never changed. Nothing compares

My father Johnny Ray Wearing graduated from Eastern High School in June 1943. A month later he was drafted and ended up in the back of a B-17 as the tailgunner on the 5 Grand. All our boys were heros back then. They all knew the difference between right and wrong and few pushed the envelope like today. I learned how to be a man from him and till this day at 66 I hold dear his high standards.I will so till the day I die. The US was great for a minute and I lived during that time. Sadly our system is run by people that are so corrupt that when they do something honest ,it's most likely an error.

I'm from Memphis MI and I always thought we were nothing but farmers although My grandfather left the farm to work in Detroit in the early 40's . As an only son he was unable to join the military. He worked as an inspector for Chrysler making sure all the windows and lights were painted blue and not visible for threat aireal bombing during night hence Detroit was not only the birthplace of automobiles its also one of our most largests deposits of Iron oar in the United States of America and The GREAT LAKES OF MICHIGAN! God bless Texas but thank you MICHIGAN! The felling is forever ❤

Pasadena apartments are still there and in great shape. 1 bedroom with 2 baths!!! $750.00 a month. In nyc it would go fo millions.

In 1965, Detroit was voted the most promising city in the USA. This award was given each year to an individual city by government facts and research polls. In 1967, only 2 years after that presentation, it was the beginning of it's demise!

I love how so many of you think you know anything about Detroit today. Yes the city for decades was dead, but it’s seen a revival unlike the world has ever seen. According to Forbes magazine it has more money going into it than the next 4 most invested in cities in America combined. It’s a magnificent city with some of the most beautiful architecture which is why it was nicknamed “the Paris of the west” Maybe do a little research before you spout off about this incredible city.

@Jay Jay Obviously you have never been for a visit. Beautiful places here in Detroit that people comment about all the time. The Architecture and history alone is something to see and learn about. Always a hater and negative people out there like yourself.

@Jay Jay I'm not trying to embrace filth, i agree its awful on that side of town really sad. I also have history with relatives that have lived and worked down there. Can't we agree that all major cities have bad areas because that's a fact. I enjoy Detroit and its history and architecture, plus Belle Isle and much more. I just came back from there and enjoyed a coffee and Campus Martius ice skating. It looks like a wonderland down there right now. I make the trip down to Detroit a few times a week and always see something new and interesting. I don't believe in what's evil is called good I just like the city.

Late 1800’s to early 1900’s was Detroit’s Renaissance period. Buildings were works of art! Not like the garbage heaps we have today in Detroit! Those old days are now long gone, never to reappear ever!

Detroit has gaslights, kerosene lamps, arc lights and Edison style lamps as street lights, while the neighboring city, Dearborn (formerly Dearbornville and Springwells Township) has kerosene lamps, and Edison style lamps as street lights, but the town is too small to have gas lights and arc lights.

Detroit’s turnaround I think will be gradual and take a long time. People who can’t afford the ridiculously high price of real estate elsewhere will start considering Detroit. Just look at the high prices in LA, Seattle, and San Francisco, most people can’t afford them now.
